i never checked out a turbo i didnt know they had a turbo . . but im pretty shure imma go with a cam and heads . .i just got to find somebody that will pass me on smog . .suck cali smog is so strict
like everything else, it all depends on your tune. It is absolutely possible to make a stock short block LT1 run on 8psi or boost, but you will probably have to pull timing and/or run good gas. Boost isn't what kills pistons, detonation is...with forged pistons they can handle a lot more of it before giving up, but the hypereutectic pistons are brittle and shatter when exposed to knock. If you tune for absolutely 0 knock (and pull a few more degrees after that even) you won't have any problems blowing pistons out at 4.5psi. That much should give you a good 100HP or so, putting you right near 350rwhp. Rebuild with 9.0:1 pistons later, put the boost up to 10-15 psi and pull 450rwhp out of it (with accomanied bolt ons of course)
BTW a (proper) turbo is more efficient than a supercharger and uses less power to run...its more expensive though.

IMHO ....You hit it right on the head, boost will not damage a engine, if tuned correctly, you can ( almost ) again ( Almost ) boost yourself to death, I have a few Bud's here that have Daytona Chargers ( on ZTurbos ) running mega Boost, Brent 94z also knows them, their hitting up to 17 to 20 Lbs of boost with 2.5's, we added a 5th injector and a few other small mods to handle the boost with no problems at this time, Gezzz, these things are almost diesels.....LOL..... ( has been well over a year and a 1/2 now easy ) ...boost is not that hard to understand, now you have to remember i'm a old guy, we used to run Mega compression years ago and we , " I " Learned A Lot, THE HARD WAY, I myself am running at around 13.6 on my LT4 SS ( I do have good forged pistons ) and as soon as I can Steal one of Brent old Vortec's I'll be running a low boost with it ! ( Yeah, mabe I'll have to re-learn the hard way again....LOL )
Kinda think of it this way, there are Many people running NOS and boost at the same time, ( NOS is nothing more then a compression booster ) .....I remember prob a year or 2 ago I helped a Bud Of Brents tune his TransAm with a Vortec and a 150 shot and as far as I know the car is still running fine
Enjoy, keep it COOL, and tune it right

thanks for the very helful advice you guys .. i keep changing my mind . . but it set for shure now im going with the powerdyne s/c 4.5 . . i just have to find somebody that tunes good out here in northern cali . . well heres my plans for this next couple months install powerdyne s/c,1.6 rr and springs,52mm t/b,jet hot lt,2.5 x-pipe,and a good head job . . i got to find somebody out here that knows their port jobs . . .then while it sits dearing the winter im working on suspension .. .if you guys have an more suggestions on what else i should know let me know . .ive got just about 3,000 saved up . .still got a bit to save
Yeah you can pass on the throttle body for a while. If you gonna do heads then you might as well throw a decent cam in there. You don't gotta go to radical since your gonna be getting most of your power from the SC.
Im going to have to disagree with ya. I would not waste your time with a blower unless you can afford the rebuild. All it takes is some bad gas and there goes your motor. Then as far as the turn goes, yeah you can tune it to be "safe" but then your not making any power so its not as fun. Then the powerdyne blower's dont make much power as it is. If you want a blower dont waste your money on something small, go big right away then keep the boost down. Just about everyone on this board has done this including me. Went small right away then ended upgrading a year or 2 down the road.
As for power with heads and cam your going to make ~370rwhp which is good for about a high 12 with a mph of about 112. With the powerdyne you will not see those numbers. Heads and cam your car will last a lot longer, then when you want more power just add nitrous. There are a few cars around here that have been running the heads and cam with juice for 3+ years on the stock bottom end.
Dont get me wrong forced induction is nice only if you have the money to do it right the first time out.
Good luck, hope you change your mind and stick with heads and cam. I think down the road your will be happiest with this selection.

if u wanna keep it "budget" best thing is to take urheads off, hog out the combustion chambers (stock is 56cc i think, u can hog themout to 62ish) that will drop ur compression quite a bit..
put on an Strim, and run 8# with a proper intercooler and u'll be safe .. a friend of mine runs 8# on stock compression on a stock motor (all he has is better valve springs, rockers and headers) and he makes 415 rwhp .. his car passes smog, gets wicked gas milage (compared to my 380 rwhp heads/cam car) and drives a hell of a lot nicer than mine
dont even bother with a cam, stock cam is really good for any power adder ... unless u wanna get radical with ur hp, then u rebuild ur engine, get wicked heads, custom cam and mooore booost
im going from a heads/(BIG) cam/ N20 setup which isnt streetable too much to a heads/small cam/boost/n2o setup for next year that will get better milage, pass the sniffer, and be pleasent to drive
so i say slap an Strim on there and run 6-8#s, just make sure u got the fuel and ignition tuned and run a good IC and u'll be fine
