hey everybody i know are engines dont like superchargers because of the high comression. . .but now how can you lower the compression so you can slap a supercharger on the lt1.. .because i have the funds right now to get s/c but in the future i dont think im going to have money for a rebuild for a long long time . . i have 85,000 on the car and i herd that lt1 will only last 30,000 if your lucky with as/c is this true??well how can i make the engine last?? thanks for checking out my thread
be careful
yes u can trun a supercharger but its a headache, tuning make sure its aftercooled and i repeat dont get greedy an boost id go withj 4 pounds to be safe..... and put 93 and up octane or get 3 to 5 gallons of racing gas but make sure u dont burn your o2s get it tuned spend the money....

I would save that money for a killer engine rebuild. Thats why I went with n2o. Its cheaper which leaves more money for a rebuild down the road ( or around the corner with my 200-250 shot. ) To answer your question it will be fine with 4.5..........for how long well that depends how you drive it. Remember unlike n20 you can't turn off the supercharger.
LT1's in stock form hate boost. small combustion are/high compression, ****ty ****ty exhaust ports and manifolds, brittle/lightened hyperutectic pistons...
spend that money on a heads and cam package and blow the doors off a stock z28 witha 4.5#blower

I've been running my Vortech for about 45k now and no problems with the exception of an opti or two. Like anything else, a supercharged engine's longevity is based on moderation. You're not going to spray N20 from every stop light are you? Of course not. A supercharger doesn't really make alot of boost until 2500+ rpm (really starts about 3000-3200). When you're cruising or just driving like a normal person, the engine is still in a vacuum state, boost doesn't start until you get on it. I would stay away from the paxtons though, I've heard horror stories about the fiberglass belts coming apart and killing the blower and the engine. Go with a nice vortech or ati and you'll be much happier. Plus, when you get the $$ to do a rebuild, you can build for lower compression/higher boost and then just do a pulley swap.
Dont do it, especially in a hot climate. I had a powerdyne 6 psi kit and in the summer heat of arizona i saw intake temps of 170*. I took the blower off before i did any damage. I bought the blower from a buddy of mine who blew his engine using it.
I had mine dyno tuned and it was still a pain in the butt. Run great one day, crappy the next.
IMHO Do heads/cam with the money instead.

Buddy in my town probably posts on this board had nice white ws6 ta with ati.I had a ride at like 6 or 7 psi and it ripped ,felt great.A week or two later he upped the boost I think to 8 or tightened his pulley or something..forget exactly. We are at high altitude like 1900 ft above sea leve so you lose some boost .He has p1sc not d1.Anyway she went kaboom and he is rebuilding his engine. He was very smart about things.had a lt1 scanmaster and tunercat.had wideband o2,boost gauge all the toys..Still think the hypekinetic pistons in lt1 and ls1s are junk for blower application and of course our high compressions don't help much either. I think 6 psi would be ok thats about all I would chance on a stock engine.
