STS turbo spool noise...

I know the STS system has probably been beaten to death around here...But I think it's awesome! utterly the best setup I could want...short of a HO Vortech, but I wonder, can that spool-up noise be softened/reduced? Someone remarked, "it's sounds like a wailing banshee" and I agree, negatively...

If all turbos sound like that, I'm not at all sure why people are infatuated with "turbo-spool". I think it takes away from the V8 rumble, and makes the car sound almost....dare I say it? Girly, or even "ricer-esque".....

Its gonna be hard to quiet down an STS system because the exhaust is literally two feet long. I can hardly even hear my turbo (front mount) even with a 4" exhaust and a race bullet muffler. But when I can hear it, I love it; Definitely not girly.

I have front mount twins with @ 3 feet of exhaust on each....

I run a small cam so I get the v8 rumble... how many head, cam, dumped duals cars do you know that rumble at 7k rpms? I don't know any.

My setup isn't done yet but I have had the chance to run through some gears,,, I love the banshee sound up top.

I see what you're saying...I'm just having a hard time seeing that Turbo noise as being "Muscle car" ish....you know what I mean?

But other than that, this STS setup looks way to good to be true! Anyone here have one of their kits? That could offer some insight?

With a front mount turbo, you can easily throw in a nice mufflerin the exhaust system to give it a throaty sound. Like others said, its tough on an sts because the tailpipe is so close to the turbo. Its not impossible, but it is tight.

Also, dumping the wastegate exhaust back into the down pipe will quiet some of the whooshing down (to quiet down the jet engine sound).

Nice, great idea, RealQuick...
I've been leafing through "STS" threads...I've been hoping 5.0THIS shows up, it would be interesting to hear what he had to say - very sound gentleman, just obviously hates STS's...

I've never heard of a Grand National being called girly or ricer-esque.

No, perhaps I should elaborate...the standard underhood setups don't seem to whine, or hiss quite as much as this unit does - partly because the damn thing IS so close to the tailpipe...at least to me...

I prefer the throaty, classic muscle-car V8 thunder coming out of my cars butt. Not a whistle that overpowers said sound....

I see what you are saying now...

I guess in the classic sense of muscle it is different, but I have never seen the 4th gen as a true muscle car anyways. A jet engine will still turn heads.

Oh and my exhaust dumps at the kmember,, no butt noises for me.

So then go NA.. lol

If you want a turbo, loud whistling is just one of the "negatives" of it. If you want to reduce it, you already know the ways.
