STS Turbo Results - 101 hp gain

We finally got time to install the STS turbo kit on my daily driven 2001 Z28 today. The final result w/ 5 lbs of boost was a gain of 101 rwhp.

I have the dyno graph and an installed pic on our web page here:

http://www.thunderracing.com/project...n=read&pgid=92

My car is an automatic w/ stock torque converter and bolt-on's (Thunder Racing long tube headers w/ custom y-pipe, ASP pulley.) The before runs were done w/ the Hooker cat-back on the car as well. The best I've ever run in the car is 12.25 about a month ago.

Now, if it would just quit pouring down rain so I can get to really drive the car and get it back to the track.

where does the maf go on with the sts kit? I don't see it on the compressor so is it now used as a blow through?

Angie,
Good luck, hopefully you'll do better than the dumbass who had one of the 4.5 lb kits on an LS-1 T/A at a track rental I went to yesterday.

It was running only low 13's at 111 mph and has dyno'd 411 RWHP
Obviously it was mostly a poor driver (w/ M6) couldn't launch and power shifting had not been mastered.

Looks like you got a clue so you should do fine, look forward to seeing some track times from ya

After you do some test runs, I'd recommend a Vigilante t/c as it would really come screaming out of the hole with one of those.

On a positive note, it did look like a nice kit.

Good luck.

Whats up with the dyno graph, it's quite a bit wavy Is this with the kit bolted on and no tuning?

Angie, David told me about this last week. I thought about posting it, but didn't know if you guys wanted it spread around.

I'm curious to see how this turbo keeps up with other mod's. Plan on a heads/cam set-up?

I went for a ride in that car and it felt a little slow. My 368rwhp/336rwtq LT1 was quite a bit faster (12.5's @ 114mph). I still like the looks of the kit and I am thinking of using T76 in place of the smaller turbo in order to feed my 383.

Actually, We are in the process of building a 410 ci iron block for my car right now. This motor was in the works before I decided on the turbo, but now we are going for a slightly lower compression setup that will work well with the turbo. My main goal is to keep this streetable (smallish cam, etc.) so that I can still pick up the kids from school and drive it to the track without any issues.

Marc, I've run a Vigilante in both my 95 Z28 and my 99 Z28 at different times. I'd say all together, I've been through 6-7 converters between those two cars and the Vigilantes are my favorite for the street/strip. I will most likely go with another one in this car, but I may wait until the 410 is finished before making a final decision on a converter.

Re: STS Turbo Results - 101 hp gain

I was skeptical about the STS turbo setup, but after riding in Angie's car today, I must say that I'm impressed. Lag was no worse than any other turbo vehicle I've ridden in and the seat-of-the-pants agrees with the dyno numbers.

Space constraints are limitting the filter. You already need to route the intake pipe over the axle to head back to the front. Either you leave the filter where it is or you need to run the filter tube over axle to move the filter. Now you have 2 over axle pipes on the driver's side. It gets kinda cramped over the exle there. Also, there is a mesh (nylon?) that goes over the k&N filter to protect it somewhat from road debris.

Re: STS Turbo Results - 101 hp gain

We have had the STS system on our LT1 for a year and no problems with the filter. I have thought of a shield also, but havent found a need yet. Probably give it a try when the motor is back in.

Any skeptic has changed their mind about the system after i have given then a ride
