ive been toying with the idea of turbo charging my 3rd gen for a couple months and i have a couple questions.
which would produce more power and least risk 355 or 383 i intend on using a good size turbo t70+++
i was told by a couple buddies that have turbo charged 355s that 383s cant support turbos with out breaking a lot of stuff. but then reading some forums and what not i was thinkin why wouldnt a 383 stroker be a good bet for a tc. high rev= more spooling. am i right or wrong?
(the motor is a 79 btw)
whats the better vehicle to put it on a 3rd or 4th gen?
i want it on my 3rd gen but if a 4th gen is a better choice for aero dynamics and what not then ill start the hunt for a 4th gen.
and whats a good tranny to put on a tc'd car? i was told by my buddy a 700r4 is best bet due to the OD for highway and it gives more room with the extra gear to spool.
id appreciate some opinions/facts thz =)

First of all, most power and least risk don't really go together when choosing between the 355 and 383 on a T4 turbo. You see, when using turbo's in the T70 - T76 range, the 355 will offer the most power when the turbo is max'd out at 18+ psi. However, when running lower boost levels (5 - 15 psi), the 383 will make more power. A 383 will spool the turbo slightly quicker, but it won't be noticeable.
There is no difference in reliability between 355 and 383 at the same boost level.
A 3rd gen would be a better vehicle to put it in simply because there is way, way more room for the turbo, not to mention the car is lighter.
Whomever told you that a 700R4 is the best tranny for a turbo motor is wrong. Don't ever listen to that person again. The TH350/TH400/PG is a must if you're going to make real power. A 700R4 will not hold up unless you spend $3000 on one.

As far as how strong the motor needs to be, turbos are easier on internals than nitrous, but if you have a choice go with a forged rotating assembly. Personally, I'm running a stock crank and rods, but that's only because I blew all my money on building the turbo kit.
