So... Compression.. Dished Pistons

What does a person need to look for when get a dished piston for the LT1?

How big of a dish does a person need to get to 8.7-9:1 range?

Simple question. Thinking about just throwing in some pistons and beating the hell out of it. Im nervous the stock stuff will let go

you wont be able to get down to 9:1 with stock rods and off the shelf pistons and stock heads. your looking around 9.3:1. if you went with 6" rods instead of 5.7" you have more options, I think you can get a -28cc dish for those. the deepest dish for 5.7" rods is -24cc and those are SRP's. everyone else is -22cc. Ive heard good and bad things about SRP, mostly its that they cant take any detination.

Using those Diamond -22 dish 4.030 bore, stock stroke and 5.7 rod.
And with a Felpro 1074 gasket that will net you 9.3:1, stock deck height, assuming stock heads(54cc if I remember correctly).
Anybody know the stock deck height? I cant find a reliable number.
A -24 dish will get ya 9.1:1.
Those Speed Pro pistons with the 21.1 dish will get ya close to 9.4:1

Im kinda in the same boat right now, want to do single turbo and with the stock heads, rods and crank, Im leaning towards those Diamond pistons, however Im tempted into getting some H beams as well, but them if I go that far I might as well do a splayed 4 bolt. I dunno

Im right there with you.... I origianlly oonly planned on adding pistons and ARP hardware to the stock PM rods and crank. Ive since added Hbeams and a forged crank..... Im taking the build it once and forget it mentality. its tough to take the extra cost of the machining and itll take a month or so extra to get all the parts together and installed but I think itll be worth it.

Deck height seems to vary on the LT-1's that I've checked. I've found the piston to be between .010"-.020" in the hole.

Well my motor only has 10k on it. Fresh rebuild. So I plan on just on stick some pistons and rod bolts in and beating it till it dies. Since it is already .040 over i'll be planning for the worse and save for a complete short/long block.

Well to me.. im my personal opinion, the point in getting a forged set of pistons is detonation resistance. Mise well run a deep and cheap hyper dish piston in that case (and i may consider doing just that).

I used .015 in my calculations so I guess that should be pretty close.

That won't get you as low as you want, but WAY BETTER than those junk HYPER pistons.

Sounds like it will get me in the 9.5/1 area. ITs not <9.0/1 but its better then over ten and only 80 bucks in pistons... lol. Im sure you could beat the motor will a lot more boost and be alright. Just can't have ANY detonation (since not forged and will prolly have ZERO tolerance for detonation).

Yeah them aint too bad priced. That'll land me about the same 9.5-9.6/1 range (right?)?

Boost and Hypers are a BIG no no. why spend any money on cheap stuff that we can gaurentee that you will detroy. I think setting your money on fire would be a better option. spend a little money on forged pistons and take the thought of hypers onta yoru mind.. please

Plan on pulling the motor december and going callies bottom end. So going nuts on something im going to just take out and set aside won't do me much good either. Im actually planning on it grenading, hence lookin at the cheaper stuff. Lets not forget im a mile high too and can push a few more psi on a given compression then say someone at sea level with the same setup.

Those cheap forged pistons may be the ticket. New rod hardware and those dish pistons. Sounds like a good weekend project. Then pull em out and sell em to my buddy when i decided to change up combo (though I may just beat em untill something breaks).
