Silver Camaro

I am new to this site. I have a 95 Camaro with a Procharger running 8psi. I am going to rebuild the engine going to port and polish the heads like a stage 2. I am going to run 9.5 compression so I can go 12psi in the engine. I need to know what size of a cam is better for this combination, also needs to pass Illinois emission. Anybody from Waukegan, IL area. I will appreciate the help. Thank you.

Your engine builder should really help select the cam for your combination, but I'm running the Comp Cams 224/236-114 and am very satisfied with it and passed the CA emissions easily.

Re: Silver Camaro

Illinois has emissions? Holy crap.

I agree w/ BlownF1's cam suggestion. If it'll pass CA emissions, it'll pass anywhere.

Also, don't be disapointed is you don't see 12# on a built motor. The boost # isn't as important as the RWHP # and track times.

BlownF1 is right about getting info from your engine builder; I would just add that heads and cam should be matched as closely as possible to get the most out of them. I would ask around and see which head porter has a good reputation and proven FI results, give him your internal engine configuration, where (rpm range) and how much power you want to make and let him port the heads accordingly and recommend the cam specs. He will have intimate knowledge of the flow characteristics and what cam will optimize them for the most power to meet your criteria. He can also give you educated recommendations for exhaust setups that will further enhance his work and pass the emissions. Might be a little more leg work and possibly a few more dollars (shouldn't be too much extra), but the results will be worth it.

Good luck,
Tom

Re: Silver Camaro

If you are planning to run 12 psi of boost, why not drop the compression down some more. I would try for around 9:1 personally...
