SD Concepts Tensioner Pics
SD Concepts Tensioner Pics
I've asked for these pics around 100 times.. Finally, I got some of my own
I received my SD Concepts tensinoer and bracket yesterday.
I ordered an ATI SuperDamper and the new ATI Superdamper hub about 2 months ago. I had the damper and hub shipped right up to sd-concepts and they put together this package for me.
It is their upgraded tensioner and bracket and a newly designed spacer for the ATI Superdamper/HUB Combination.
The NEW ATI Superdamper HUB is a big block chevy outside diameter and a small block chevy inside diameter. You have to modify your timing cover to fit the new hub, but, it is SO much more beefy. This should stop my crank snouts from being destroyed.
Basically, what we figured out is that the keyway was breaking or being jumped by the stock keyed hub and the Racenet supplied keyed hub. After it jumped the key, it screwed up my crank nicely.
I will get pics up as soon as I can of it installed, but for now, here is everything on my garage floor.
I can't say enough about sd-concepts .. www.sd-concepts.com
Scott spent nearly an hour on the phone with me talking about my problems with my supercharger and cranks breaking. He made a few recommendations and explained quite a bit to me. I sent my stuff up, they kept me up to date as to what was happening with a minimum of 1 phone call and e-mail per week.
And this was just for a tensioner order, I can't imagine how they would've treated me if I brought my car there for service.
I dealt with Ricky at ATI. He answered all my questions regarding the ATI Superdamper. They were doing a run on the new ATI Hub, and he pulled one off for me early and sent it out to the plater so I Didn't have to wait 2 months for one. He called me once a week as well and kept me up to date regarding where my hub and damper were. I can definetly say, between these 2 companies, I had the best customer service I have ever had.

I'm so anxious to get this on my car.. C'mon engine builder, do your job.

Sean,
Thanks for the pics
Do you have a D-1 or D1SC?
I have a D-1 and was considering fabbing up a similar homade setup but was concerned about the oil feed line which is right above the two bolts on the outside edge and thought I might have to notch a space for the feed line.
Where is that little "strut brace" supposed to bolt to? The way it's angles it looks like it needs to bolt to the frame rail? Not sure if it's want to do that and have the motor torque the other way.

Marc,
I have a D-1.. Not sure about the oil line, haven't even mocked it up with the charger yet. Scott @ SD concepts did ask me if it was a D1 or D1SC, so, I assume he took taht into consideration
I think that little brace goes to the frame rail, which is a problem like you said. I am going to call Scott after I play with it this weekend. I may have to switch to solid motor mounts.
I showed the new tensioner to a friend of mine today, he said it looks like a ford truck tensioner.. not sure about that, but, it would be interesting if it was..

Sean,
Don't worry about the oil line, that will be fine. I made the original post from work and when I got home I checked and it will be fine
How thick is the additional piece on the outside edge?
In the pic it kinda looks like it has a taper to it but it must just be the picture?
I was planning to fab up a support that comes off similar location (as the part that looks like it attaches to the fram rail) but my intentions was to come straight back about 3-4 inches and then use some ½ threaded rod and a coupling and attach the otherside to the block so I can pre-load the blower.
Still dealing with throwing belts
Intend to solve my dilema over the winter.

Seeing how I've heard nothing but good things on this board about SD Concepts and since they are only about 2 hours away from my house I recently brought my Z/28 down to them and had them modify my brackets / spacers and install thier tensioner / pulley / brace and I have to agree with Sean as Scott is good to deal with, he did a great job and everything looks good and the most important part is that he finished the job when he said he would.
When I went down there on a Saturday to pick up my Z, Scott was messing around with his 73 Charger w/ D3 that runs high 8's and he had some drag radials on it and after I left he and a buddy were going to go out and do some beat runs on the street

ATI did a poor job at designing this tensioner. I've had nothing but problems with it. It goes thru too many belts. There must be a way to use a ford type tensioner like vortech does with a little ingenuity thown in.
Re: SD Concepts Tensioner Pics
I would like to see pics of it as well, Bencharles_10@hotmail.com
Scott at SD told me it would run me about 900 (that comes with all the parts and them doing all the labor) not to bad I suppose. I now the LS1 boys use these tensioners and like them a lot, My car is using a D1SC.

Re: SD Concepts Tensioner Pics
I think the whole thing set me back like 500 or so, then I spent the money on the ATI damper and hub, which was another 400 or so. I did the install myself on the car, so, that's not a big deal.
I didn't machine the blower pulley for 6 holes, just stayed with the 3, plus the ATI Damper only has a place for 3 bolts besides the 6 flush mounted ones.
I'll send some more pictures out tonight for anyone else who wants them, I'm at work now and don't have them here.

Re: SD Concepts Tensioner Pics
Thanks! As for the ATI damper it comes with a total of 9 holes and the big block hub comes with a total of 12 holes. There are 3 little dimples on the balancer that can be drilled out so that you can use 6 bolts for the blower puller and 6 bolts for the balancer on the hub. Just curious if anyone did this or if they were okay using just 3 - 3/4 bolts.
