SC Engine rebuild

How can you rebuild the LT1 for a safe operation of a SuperCharger? Could you rebuild it to last over 40k? What kinda of internals would you need? I have only messed with carb engines, so this would be a new expierience. Any help is appreciated, Thanks

Well you need to give more info of what your goals are, and how much $$$$ you have to play with. Forged crank, pistons, and rods is a good start. The weakest part is the hyper pistons. 40k miles should be no problem but it depends how nice you are on the car, and how much boost your going to run. You should try the search option there is tons of info on this. When you get a good idea of what you want then repost.

Scat cast cranks can handle 500 HP. Not sure what boost you want to run. I was going to go with forged pistons, rods, crank, and splay the 4 bolts but I was told that was overkill for 10#s.

You're doing the right thing by asking questions and doing your research before you build. 9.5:1 Comp Ratio seems to work well for a streetable blower motor.

Let us know what you finally decide.

Hey thanks guys. Well money isnt really an issue because i wont be doing this until like a year or so from now. So i have time to save up, and take all the options in. although I dont want to waste my money. I am looking for around 400-500 RWHP, that should satisy my need, I just want something that i can whoop just about anyones *** with on the street while maintaing good gas mileage, if i could get away with 600 hp while mainting gas mileage than what the heck, who wouldnt want that. but like i said i would like to build the engine so it can last also. So overbuilding might be an option, also Because horsepower is addicting and i will probably just want more once i get a taste. Im think about starting at a 8 PSI chager with the rebuild, how much horse you think that would get me?? I dont know much about the SC, but i want to learn about them cause i am bored with conventional engine. I dont want NOS cause i want power all the time, and there arent any bolt on turbo kits ive seen available. The reason I dont want to do the rebuild too soon, is because i want to build the drivetrain to handle it first, along with doin a custom paint job, instead of doing it all at once. Ill try that search option out too. Also I am pretty nice to my cars, except for on the weekends and when the ocasional mustang pulls next to me after work

I went back and forth and finally decided to do the entire bottom-end forged. I also decided to splay the mains. I didn't do the 383 stroker because I didn't feel I needed the extra machining and parts costs because with the blower I'd be producing plenty of power. I just felt that a 4-bolt, forged, 355 would have the most longevity and with boost, push some serious hp. If you want the most hp/bang for the buck, the 383 might be a better way to go.

That's what I did...

No. You won't get good mileage...

Better if you keep you foot out of it, but what's the point?
