Safe to run 5PSI of boost?

My friend is hooking me up with a free 5-9PSI turbo kit with boost controller for my LT1. Is it safe to run 5psi with my stock compression ratio or put it aside till I get new pistons?

General consensus is that 5 psi is OK, assuming everything is in good condition to begin with. My question for you is, do you have any friends you can send my way? I need a friend like that.

youll be fine on 5 psi depending on how much youve beat on your motor. just aslong as you dont run lean you should be fine. what kinda kit is it? you lucky bastard you!

In my opinion, there is no point in running a turbo or s/c at low boost. It defeats the purpose of having one. Your friend should invest his money into a set of heads and cam, he'll probably see a larger gain than a turbo, s/c at 5psi. I would have a bullet proof bottom end, then run a s/c or turbo at high boost (12-18) to see a huge gain. I think that makes more sense, no?

im gonna hafta say santacruz is my hero.. i mean OMG only running 5psi.. since your getting it for free i think thats awsome and for sure wouldnt turn it down. but for all those people who are actually gonna spend money on FI.. and ALOT of money at that and run such a low psi.. shame on you!

o and as santacruz said about the heads and cam, make sure you get headers and proper exhaust first

/tek.

5 psi isnt bad, considering a lot of people run 4.5 with blower cars, you should get away with 6psi on that stock motor. How ever, if you decide to go in to the motor, you might want a little more boost than 9 if your motor can handle it.

The shop he works at has the kit laying around for almost half a year now ( guy that ordered it never showed to have it installed) and when I went in to put in new speakers all around and add a desent( didn't want anything to ricer like =P ) sized sub his asked his boss if I could have the kit. They pretty much get all imports cars there minus the 2 96 impala SS that come in once in a while. The kit comes with the downpipe from turbocharger to the exhaust, in tank fuel pump, boost gauge, single pod for it, boost controller, stainless steel headers, 2 tial 35mm wastegates, the 2 turbos( don't know the size, but he said they at 5-9psi) intercooler with all the pipes, hoses, and clamps, PCM chip, and new fuel injectors( think it was 45LBs/HR). I was planing on building a 383 LT4 stoker when summer came around when I had more money and more time. I got the car about a year and a half ago with 6x,xxx miles on. I don't drive the car rough and always used Mobil 1 syn. every 2500 miles. What should I have checked before installing it, and what happens if I run lean? Thanks for the help so far guys! Keep you guys posted.
