Root Bolwer for hypered LT1
Root Bolwer for hypered LT1
Is there a blower for LT1 engines hypered in other cars cause I know it won't fit under the hood of a Camaro.
I've seen magna blowers for LS1 engines but wounder if any company makes blowers for the LT1 engine.

No, they don't make them. I have seen one that was moded to fit but you would have to cut the cowl to make it fit and it seems like it would be too much work for what it is work when you can get great gains from a centrifugal supercharger and it all fits really nice. Do a search over on LS1tech.com. They have a thread going where a company is making a roots style blower to fit the LS1.....suposedly.

Actually there is a company that makes a manifold for an eaton, also will allow to swap it over to a KB/whipple if you wish. Currently its built around the b-body, but Keith stated he could adapt it for the F-bodies.

Re: Root Bolwer for hypered LT1
i definately go centrifugal....which i did...cause i'm me. and thats what i'd do.
but your you. just kiddin....
just weigh the benifits/downsides for each and think about what you plan to do for power in the long run. i think the roots type blowers are more limited on their flow. ive just read some ford mags (cause thats the only car mags at my work) and they were testing the eaton m112 on the cobras and it was maxed out on flow very quickly when they started playing with smaller pulleys.
i also read that the cobras use a air-water aftercooler but i dont see how they work. there isnt any where to cool the air when you have the bower right on top of the manifold. anyone know how they have these set up?

I just want to say it again, roots suck. Twin screws are good or great with an intercooler. If you cant mount a intercooler on one than a turbo or centi with a intercooler is best.
Re: Root Bolwer for hypered LT1
I've had both a vortech aftercooled T-trim and a M112 on my LT1 with the same engine, car, etc..
To be honest, I was dissapointed in my t-trim when I first got it. The M112 felt much faster on the street and the torque was unbelieveable.
The t-trim wins hands down though when you pulley it up. But all things being the same 8psi from a M112 feels a crapload better than 8psi in a aftercooled T-trim.
I'm actually selling a copy of my M112 kit to a guy in the next few weeks. Its pretty neat. All you have to do is cut out the center spar in the hood support (takes 20 minutes and doesn't make the hood any weaker that I can tell) and notch the cowl up to the windsheild wiper mount. Mine fit under a stock firebird hood which I think are lower than camaro hoods also. No oil lines, no drain lines, no extra tensioners.

Re: Root Bolwer for hypered LT1
On the street the roots will win at the same low boost levels, but what will a roots do when you turn it up to 12psi. Blow super hot air. A friends 468 with an 8-71 made 460 at the wheels with 12psi. I made 540 with 11psi and 105 less CI. He has Th400 and 42 spline axles, I have the M6 and 33 splines but I think it aways comes down to blower effiency and intercooler effeciency.
Re: Root Bolwer for hypered LT1
its all in what you want to do with the car.. Not everyone wants 500+ rwhp that you only get by aggressively turning up the motor.
And, if your really in the mood you can always throw a kenne bell on and whip up on the centrificals.

What comes with it. Did you fabricate a manifold to fit the blower on top of the LT1 engine. Can you poste pictures for the blower mounted on the engine. How the blower is driven. I guess a back to back crank pully is needed to drive the blower.
My LT1 engine is mounted in a Jeep Wrangler for sand drag. So, no clearnce issues with me. The engine is 385. Bryan did the mail tune for me and was awesome. My goal is 550+RWHP. Can it be done with 8 psi boost and stock compression without intercooling.
Re: Root Bolwer for hypered LT1
Uses stock crank pulley, a longer belt, and an optional idler to get about 80% belt wrap.
You won't see 550rwhp unless you put a kenne bell. More typical results would be 370-410rwhp and 440-460rw torque.
