Ok glad to hear that these boxes actually help the spark at idle.

One of the board members is offering me an MSD BTM at a great price so I may take it.

Guys,

I bought a used MSD BTM box from 95 Z28 LT1. Thanks for the quick shipping. I noticed that starting is easier. Throttle response is better/crisper. I wound it up to 6500 today without any hiccups. I will let you know how it affects gas mileage in a couple of weeks. All in all a worthwhile investment for less than $200.

I decided to install it back next to my amps where it would get good cooling and be in a gentle environment and out of sight for longevity. Here is a pic.

The delteq is a good system too and will probably last longer than the opti. I just wish it had a rev limiter and boost compensated timing control. You can get these amenities if you buy a Dis-4, coil pack adapters, tach adapters,TRC-1 etc. But that is just more clutter, weight, and money. Also I believe it will be easier to tune on the dyno without having to reflash the timing tables each time. Now I have a **** for AFR and a **** for timing.

BTW if you haven't heard Tunercat made a WOT BLM Locker for my OBD 2 Tunercat .cal file. I tested it out for him and it appears to be working. I just sent my .cal to him and he did a one time modification.

Damn, you extended the wires over 8 ft?! And no problems? You should see where mine is, LOL! Hold on and I'll get a pic!

Yeah I don't do rain but actually it's not bad at all and I'm lowered. EXTREMELY LOW and the bottom of the air damn scrapes but it so insignificant that it's now where near the box. Plenty of track time at the Nurburgring/Hockenheim when it's running and there are lot of bumps and dips on the "Green Hell' too. But seeing how I can mount it in the back I think I'll do that this winter if I'm bored.

Well I have been running the MSD BTM for about 2 weeks now. No real change in gas mileage. The reason I'm staying with the box is that it pulls timing based on boost.

I've picked up a considerable amount of power under the curve due to the additional timing at lower boost levels say 1-5 psi. There used to be a hole in my torque curve because as soon as I hit boost(100Kpa) the stock pcm would pull 12 degrees of timing. The box pulls 1 degree of timing for every pd of boost so at 2 pds of boost I've only pulled 2 degrees as opposed to 12!!

I cannot even tell at what point the bypass closes now because it is so smooth going from vacuum to boost!! I also have a 6400 rpm soft rev limiter so I set my pcm rev limiter to 7000 as a backup.

So you guys are all basically ditching the Delteq for a regular MSD unit?? I have a mallory 685 now and if I can use it then I might just keep it.

Where do you guys get the MAP adapter and stuff for the Mallory unit? or should I just stay with a MSD unit?

Also, if I ditch the delteq, am I going to have to get the computer retuned?

You could probably PM Hardcore125 for info on the Mallory box. I don't know much about that box but it apparently has boost controlled timing as an option to add on.

As far as reprogramming your computer, I would say that you always need to reprogram your computer for boost to get the air/fuel ratio right. As far as timing you could use the stock timing and let the ignition box pull the timing for you.

There are only four wires that run from the MSD box to the Ignition Control Module. I bought an lt1 harness for about $30 from summit.

You will either need the MSD-8877 or MSD-8876 depending on what ICM plug style you have.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku

Bought four sets(correct colors of course) of 18 guage automotive grade wire in 20 foot rolls from autozone. Then I took the lt1 harness and the spools of wire and made a 20 foot harness wrapped in electical tape, solder and shrink wrapped the connections. I ran the wires and the boost reference vacuum hose under the steering wheel where I put a rubber gromment in. Power was already near the rear wheel well for my amps with a distribution block. Grounded to the body. I also mounted the timing control **** back in the pass rear wheel well.

I like the MSD plug and play harness because if the MSD BTM box ever goes bad all I have to do is unplug the MSD harness and the ignition is back to stock.

I've had my car to 6500 with the MSD BTM before I put the pill in.. It pulls strong all the way with no hiccups.
