Re-Building LT1 7K Sound About Right?

Ok, I screwed my motor up. Now i want to rebuild to a 355 with forged internals(rods, pistons, crank, and doing a 4 bolt main). Lets drop the question why don't you do a 383(i don't want to don't need it). This is not a daily driver but when i do drive it i do get on it a fair amount plus i do go to the track now and then. I want to run a ati supercharger probably a P1 with 10 or 12# with twin high flow internal coolers. I would like to see around 500rwhp. Now does 7K sound like it will be enough for re-building the motor having it professionally done and buying the supercharger and maybe some labor for installing the motor and supercharger? Also this needs to stay street legal so i will probably run a small blower cam and a lightly ported head and slp headers.

7K is a little light.

If you are doing this, the P1 is small. No use starting with undersized parts as 10-12# will max the P1 on a modified motor.

350 & 383 forged cranks are almost the same price..... cubes never hurt, but its your money

Injectors, programming & fuel system will cost over $1k.
FMU & stock injectors & inline pumps will not cut it....

Figure $2500 on rotating Assy
$1000 on machine work/balancing
Gaskets & bolts will be around $500
Installation/assembly labor will be over $1k

Plan on $3500-4k on the charger... entry level kits are not going to get your desired results.

You need to spend money on the heads. There is a lot of power here.
Ported stock heads, cam & rockers will be around $2k

Don't forget the clutch or converter while the engine is out. $5-800.

Not what you wanted to hear, but this is a reasonable guestimate.
You can always cut corners & save $$ or upgrade to stronger parts for more $$.

Hope this helps.

Good advice from Lonnie, as usual.

Thanks Rich,
As you also know, things have a way of snowballing. My first 383 build started cheap & cost $10k before I was done..... not including the charger.

Start adding $300 timing chains, $400 balancers, throttle body etc. & it quickly gets out of hand.

It also isn't much fun when the new motor breaks the rear & the trans. Get this in your budget as well, or you will only be looking at the new motor while you save $$ so that it will again move under its own power.

I've been told this by a couple of high performance engine guys in my area and they all seem to say the same thing which is, When building an engine/entire drivetrain setup, you have 3 different options; cheap, fast, and reliable. Pick 2 of the 3.

So it is your money, the options are up to you.
