Quick question about Vortech oil return location please...

Just wondering if you have to mount the oil return line wher Vortech says, which is in the front drivers side of the oil pan, or can you mount it lower anywhere else. Have a canton pan now and was wondering if I could mount it lower towards the back. The charger is still higher then the oil level and was wondering if anyone else had done this without any problems or if I would run into any problems by doing that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I believe that the Canton pan already has a provision for an oil return.

Re: Quick question about Vortech oil return location please...

I talked with a pretty sharp car guy about this doing this before I punched my oil pan...I was going to return it through the oil level sensor hole. Seems like the reason you can't do it there is because if your oil return comes in below the oil level (i.e. pushing the oil into more oil) it causes some type of problem, foaming or something I believe. So I punched my pan and did it the normal way. You could check where your oil level will be and then you could know for sure

Disclaimer: No one take the above info as fact. It was advice that I received that made sense. I hate to give out bad info, and for all I know that may not be right. I just followed the advice because I didn't want to be the guinea pig that everyone else could learn from their mistake.

Definately check for crankshaft throw and bulkhead fitting
clearance if you move it to a different positon.

Re: Quick question about Vortech oil return location please...

Ok, so I tried the drain down low cause I had a drain prevision put in, but the charger would start leaking out the front seal just idling in the garage. Kinda what I figured. So I punched the pan in the Vortech suggested location. It has helped a lot, but after a long drive, it starts seeping out the front seal. I have another seal to replace it if need be, but I just had the charger rebuilt by vortech, so I wouldn't think the seal would be bad. Any possibility it's my HV oil pump? Maybe pumping too much oil in there too quick and the charger doesn't have enough time to drain, even though I have the drain in the right spot now? Any thoughts on putting a second drain line in since the Vortech has 3 seperate outlets for oil drains? I'm using the center hole, but there are 2 others pluged on either side of the drain i'm using. Just curious on that one. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

hmmm...interesting. I hope someone knows an answer to this one. My head unit has been blowing a little oil into the engine past the seals. I am using the Vortech recommended oil location too....I would love to fix this problem.

TTT for ya Ken. I hope we both find the answer we are looking for.

Thanks. Yeah, i'm hoping that maybe vortech messed up the seal when they put it in and thats why it's still leaking. They want me to send it back but they wouldn't pay the shipping even though this is the first time i fired it up since it's rebuild. I'm not paying that shipping when I just went out and bought the exact same seal in town for $4 and can have it in in about 2 minutes. All they were gonna do is reseal it. But I won't know if thats the problem till I do it, which won't be for another week or so. Hoping maybe someone will chime in thats had an issue like this and fixed it. We'll see...
