question about parts
question about parts
I have a 1994 Z28 which right now completely stock except for a cold air intake and a set of flowmasters. A man i go to church with has a turbo kit off of a 2000 LS1 car. He bought the car for the motor and doesn't want the turbo kit. He said he would sell me the entire set up including injectors for $300. I was just curious, is there anything i need to be cautious of when buying this? And will this even work on my car?
If it was a rear mount kit it would be workable though you would have to change a few pieces of pipe. The injectors probably wouldn't be worth using unless they were higher flowing aftermarket units. If it's a front mount kit then it pretty much won't work without major modifications.
Hmm.. well the LS1 kit won't bolt-up for sure- but depending on what he is going to give you for the $300 it might be worth it. Get a set of LT1 hot parts and away you go.
But I will say this- if you are asking if it will work on your car this might then I'm also thinking you probably don't know all the work it takes to put a turbo on a car. Its not just a bolt-on and go piece like an exhaust or a cat-back. Your 'typical' turbo LT1 car probably has anywhere from $6000 to $20,000+ in extras on it to ensure that everything is going to work.
Not saying its not a good idea- just do some research so you can see what you are getting yourself into.

thanks for the replies guys.
Yeah, procharded I am very new. I did look around a little and the parts i've seen are pretty high. I know for more that like 6 or 7 pounds of boost you have to run forged pistons, and they aint cheap from what i've seen. Then the ijectors, cam, tuning, etc.... This doesn't bother me really bad because I bought it with intentions of racing on saturdays with my dad. He has a 68 ss 396 N/A camaro with a ton of motor work done to it. I bought this car cheap hoping that after doing some major work i could woop his tail like he's been woopin mine since I was 16. Ohh, and thanks for the input also.
I am pretty sure it is a rear mount kit. He told me the car it came off of it was mounted underneath of the car. So I assume it is a rear mount. Plus it has a bunch of piping laying in the pile of parts that came off of the car.
The reason it is so cheap is because its a family freind of ours. He bought the camaro for the motor to put in his 56 shoebox. He got the LS in it and decided that it was enough power then found out I had a camaro and said he would sell it to me for that.

Re: question about parts
Just wanted to follow up and tell you guys what happened. I took the advise and put it on ebay. Made some money and its on its way to canada right now. It was for an ls car and I didn't have the money to put into the car to turbo it right now. But, with the money I made I have bought a few things the car needed and plan to just have some fun with it pretty much stock right now.
