Pulley question

When raising boost does it matter if you change the crank pulley or the s/c pulley. I know the s/c pulley is cheaper but I was just curious if there was any difference in performance or stress on the crank.

Re: Pulley question

going bigger on the crank side is usually better.. give you more surface area for the belt too reduce slip problems

Re: Pulley question

Another vote for the crank pulley for the increased surface area to reduce belt slipage. I'm running the 7" crank pulley and the stock 3.3" SC pulley and see 10# of boost at 6K rpm with a Brad Brand solid intake tube and the Vortech Aftercooler.

Re: Pulley question

Thanks guys for the info. OBE1 do you have any clearence problems with the 7" pulley? It seems like it would be a little close to the fan. Thanks again

Re: Pulley question

The larger pulley only changes diameter, not it's "height" therefore it doesn't come any closer to the fans.

Re: Pulley question

I was talking about diameter. The pulley actually sits below the fan motor just a little bit. I may be wrong but it just seems like it would be real close. I know there are alot of people running the 7" pulley. I was just curious if you guys had to move the stock fan a little. OBE1 that sounds like a nice car that you have. You have any pics

Re: Pulley question

No need to relocate the stock fans. Thanks for the complement on the car; there's several photos of my ride in the May'05 Camaro Performers magazine.
