PTK Turbo

If I change my cam, pushrods, valve springs, timing chain/gear, lifters, and roller rockers.

You think that'll be enough for my motor to handle 8lbs of boost for 70 miles... assuming I don't beat the crap out of it? If not 8, 6?

What do you think a motor with a cam and this turbo would make at the wheels?

Re: PTK Turbo

I assume you meant 70K miles right?

Problem is if your motor is going to pop from the HP you gain on 8psi from that kit it is not going to be any of the items you listed. Springs are a good idea but if somehting is going to break it's going to be much more catastrophic than those items. I would say first to go would be a piston, block, or maybe a rod or rod bolt. Not sure where the weak link in an LT1 is but stock pistons are always weak.

Re: PTK Turbo

The stock hypercraptic pistons are the weak link. They will live fine as long as you never, ever see any detonation. Ping it a couple times and say bye bye ring lands

Re: PTK Turbo

I am trying to stay away from the block/crank...

I was figuring going as far as pistons and connecting rods.

I would even run 6lbs of boost... just trying to figure out how much the motor can handle?

Re: PTK Turbo

If you keep boost low, it will survive for a while, but its still a ticking time bomb. The LT1 in stock form was simply not designed for boost. Slap a set of pistons and rods in, and you can make BIG power.

BTW, a customer of mine this weekend with a simple 355 with eagle internals and a PTK Gen 1 system with 76GTS, 13psi and 93 pump gas went:

60ft 1.58
1/8th- 6.63@111.43
1/4- 10.17@139.90

Thats with a 6spd car and full weight 3680 lbs. You don't need a huge and $$ motor to make big power.

Re: PTK Turbo

Have no idea, I don't know if he has even dynoed the car. I calculate around 650rwhp or so. I maybe off though....

Re: PTK Turbo

How much did he pay for those parts? How much for the installation?

Re: PTK Turbo

Its a DIY kit, so he installed it himself. As for price, it was the old Gen 1 kit, so prices were different. The Gen 2 kit is just a more improved version with larger IC and larger crossover piping and different placement.

Re: PTK Turbo

Here is the entire combo...

355 , eagle rotating assembly with JE slugs
ported stock heads w/stock valves
ported LT1 intake
baby turbo cam (only 218/218)
12 bolt rear w/3.42
Gen 6 DFI
6spd/street twin combo
Gen 1 LT1 PTK kit with 76GTS /3" downpipe
13psi on 93 octane pump gas.

The intercooler was straight ice/water, IAT reached 78 degress at end of pass.

Re: PTK Turbo

He is going back this weekend to try race fuel and meth injection. I really want him to try a run with and without meth at the same boost. That will tell us how much hp some of these meth injected setups are aided by .

Re: PTK Turbo

I picked the cam, and do most of the time for my customers, but the heads, have no idea. But with stock valves, they aren't going to flow any crazy numbers. Probably 240-250cfm.
