Procharger problems

Has anyone grenaded their procharger? Mine let loose and sounded like 300 marbles in a metal blender. I sent it back to procharger and have been waiting ever since. I dont know if it can be salvaged or not. I have been told they are 3 wks behind in repairs. I have also been told that repairs are last on the list of things to do. New customers and upgrades take priority. I dont know if that is true but it sure feels like it.

Re: Procharger problems

my P1SC went out right after my 383 install. bearings went and it ground into the housing some but i upgraded it as it was repaired. if i remeber correct it was about 1 month maybe a little less for repaires and that is including shipping time. that was close to the end of the summer so they could be a little more backed up this time of year.

Re: Procharger problems

unfortunatly this is an all too common story with ProCharger :-(

I am a vortech guy for this(and other) reasons.

Service time is running 1 to 1 1/2" weeks. Blowers are serviced on a first in first out basis. Is yours under warranty? Blowers under warranty are automatically flagged for repair. Repairs that require owners consent must wait until the owner is contacted for approval. I don't know where your information comes from, but it isn't accurate.

Why don't you give ProCharger a call and they can give you the status of your work order?

JordanMusser - care to share some stats that show a ProCharger failing at a higher rate than any other forced induction system?

Re: Procharger problems

My D1 impeller impacted the housing with less than 1500 miles on it. I was told it was from lack of oil pressure. They repaired it for $1200...

My P1SC has less than 10k miles on it. I have had it for about 5yrs. It has been in a weekend/cruise car and sees only about 2k miles a year. I consulted Procharger in Feb 2006 as my combo was changing to a 383 Golen engine. I was advised that the pulley could be changed to a 3.4 inch for approx 10-12 psi boost. I was told this was as far as I could go with this set up and a D1 would be next. So I got the pulley and belt and installed this on the blower in March during the engine install. Pulley install was uneventful.

The blower was in and running with the new engine for less than 2 hrs and boom. I sent it in for repairs over 2 weeks ago. UPS delivered it to ATI on April 6th. 1st I was told it would arrive and be disassembled in a few days and I would be called with a status. Then after a week and no returned phone calls I spoke with Debra and was told "we are 2-3 wks behind since March". I have called to speak with not only tech but also service. I was sent to Jims mail box and left messages and to date no replys. At this point I cant do anything. I am stuck in limbo waiting. I cant really afford to pay $2800 for a new D1SC. ATI told me I may be able to get a discounted price from an outside vendor so I will follow their advise. Some of the vendors I spoke with were the ones that said if you want it faster buy a new one.

Please dont take this as me being unhappy with ATI but I am getiing frustrated since I had an oil leak problem repaired under warrenty and I had the unit shipped to, from and repaired faster than this is taking for me just to find out what is wrong with this unit. I have dyno time scheduled the 29th of April that looks like I wont be making.

Re: Procharger problems

My D1 grenaded last summer. Took about 6 weeks to get it back.

They never found out why. Had about 25k miles on it. Cost $1400 to repair

Re: Procharger problems

no stats, just from what i have seen over the last 8 or so years. I built a car for a guy with a seriously over spun P600B w/o problems. they certainly arent all bad, I have just personally seen more misc issues with prochargers than vortech. I am not sure about ProChargers engineering team, but I know that a D1 that I personally rebuilt had some bearings in it that were of pretty low quality. They failed once, and he had them replaced- and they failed again so I tore the unit down and replaced the bearings with better pieces. This was several years ago. Things change.
