procharger p600b
procharger p600b
i found a procharger p600b from another member on the board he say it only has 150 miles on it. i have a 97 z28 forged pistons eagle rods not forged and a eagle crank not forged rest in sig the moter only has 5 thousand miles on it i was woundering if i get it tuned and everything else is ok i sould be ok running 8 psi right i mean i shouldnt blow it up the first day and if i dont run the car to the floor all the time it should last for a couple summers i hope the kit comes with everything. also what else would you guys say i need to do??

Re: procharger p600b
Did you put the motor back to the stock compression, what kind of pistons did you use?
If you are going to tune it, get some 42# injectors and ditch the FMU.
You will need some boost and fuel pressure gauges. Do not run platinum plugs and make sure you have a good ignition system. I recommend Autolite 103 plugs @ 0.035 gap
If you are conservative on the timing, keep it a tad rich it should hold together but without forged parts and a drop in compression it will probably blow up eventually. Your piston choice will be the biggest factor.

Re: procharger p600b
like he said....it depends on the compression on those forged pistons. If its stock compression (10.5:1), i would go with 10-12 psi on good tuning. For plugs, i use NGK-TR6 gapped at .030, which are a great plug for FI because of the colder heat range. As for the blower, if you are looking into forging the bottom end or building a stroker motor, go with a p1sc, d1sc, d1, or if you wanna get crazy you could get an F-1. With these blowers, you will enjoy the step up ratio for quicker boost, and will be able to grow with you as you up the cubes or stengthen the rotating assembly.
Re: procharger p600b
Ahhh, I didn't notice the "forged piston" listed in his sig.
I originally ran NGK's but found the gap opend up on them and I switched to Autolites and have not seen the gap open up on them.
Good luck and remember "Boost is addictive"

Re: procharger p600b
thanks guys i would have to look back through my papers to find out what kind of froged pistions i do have but they are forged but that is all i did forged in the moter. i real do thank you for all the help. so you do think that the supercharger i have is a decent one to start out will for my first blower??

Re: procharger p600b
Depends on what your intentions are.....
If this is as far as you intend to go performance wise then yes it is a decent blower and will treat you well (at least my old P600B took good care of me
)
If you intend to go for more boost or make a stroker motor out of it then I'd just step up and get a D-1.
Think about what you really want to do as it's easier (and cheaper) to buy things once vs. buying things over and over just to go bigger.
It gets expensive when you start to hang with the big boys.

Re: procharger p600b
another question why would i want to go with 42# in and doing away with the fmu why not just use the fmu?? also why cant you run the platum plugs?? i think i am just going to stay at 8 psi so is the stock ignition system good?? i thought the kit came with one if not witch one would you guys recomend?? newbe just asking questions

Re: procharger p600b
FMU's relay on sensing boost to close down the return line and spike the fuel pressure and make the injectors squirt more fuel, if you remove this and just go with larger injectors then you can tune accordingly and it is a much more consistent and reliable tune.
Platinum plugs puck and are not recommended by the anyone that I know of.
I would recommend throwing an ignition box (either an Accell or MSD), if you get the car tuned then you can just to with a basic MSD 6AL or Accell equivelant, with the Accell ignition box you get the connectors to hook it up inline with your coil, MSD makes you buy a wire connector kit, if you don't then you should get the MSD 6 BTM (Boost Timing Master - this will allow you to remove timing - will take out anywhere from 0-3 degrees for every pound of boost with a max of 15* removed), LT-1 kits do not come with ignition systems.

Re: procharger p600b
I've clocked over 20k on my motor running 9lbs and only forged pistons @ 8.5 CR. I have the MSD 6AL, twin intercooler and a P600B. Puts 450+ to the ground.

Re: procharger p600b
My old setup was a p600b w/ twin intercooler, bone stock lt-1 ( didnt even have headers) and I ran it with no prob. Although as many will tell you hear, some people have no problems for years and others blow up right away
But even the guys like me that ran successfully for a while will eventually spin a bearing or break piston ring lands. If it was my car I would ditch the p600b and upgrade to a head unit with more airflow capability (D-1). Although that really depends on your planned budget and power goals. I have nothing but good things to say about the p600b for what it was intended to deliver and it does that well. Personally I would avoid retarding the timing, just a bandaid for a larger problem ( astronomically high compression and detonation). I realize this would be more expensive, but why not fix the real problem and lower the comp ratio. I had good luck with the accel digital ignition box. Only bad thing was the opti getting pissed
Either way, it sounds like you are getting some good advise from people who have been in your shoes. Good luck in your endevor!
