powerdyne or vortech s/c

I will be installing a s/c very shortly, and am strongly considering the powerdyne 6 psi kit. It is considerably cheaper than any other, and you do not have to tap into the oil pan. superchargersonline.com says nothing but good things about this specific s/c.

Does anyone have any information/input/opinion about the setup? thanks
i am told with confidence that i will blow my motor with this 6psi blower setup. however iam optimistic and nipping close at the heels reguardless of achieving appx 400rwhp.

thanks

I'm sure eventually it will blow up but...

I run a 7lb Vortech SQ 431.0rwhp/475.0tq on a conservative tune. Had ignition issue or else I could have made more power.

The powerdyne blowers are not even close to giving the same performance as a Vortech or Procharger. Do a search on here for powerdyne and you'll see lots of negative info about them, and most of the negative info about them comes from people that own them.

uhh, it really depends on what you want from a power perspective. if you want to run 6 psi and 6 psi only, you should be fine with that setup. anything higher, and your reliability goes out. with a vortech or procharger, you can keep upgrading. ive also seen plenty of people on here that were satisfied with the powerdyne. why spend so much more money on a vortech or procharger + the PIA of install, if you are only going to want 6 psi and about 60-80 rwhp gain? especially if you can get a used powerdyne for $1500or less. it really depends on what you want.

Most people have only been able to get 3 psi out of the 6 psi kit, and you can get a used ATI or Vortech kit for 1500 to 2k on this forum

hmm..i havent seen any used vortechs for less then $2500..and usually around $3,000. ive seen the p600b for like $1700 or so...but then you have to tap your oil pan. but hell, if you can get a decent ati or vortech for 1500-2000, then i cheerfully retract my statement

I see them for around 1800 to 2500 most of the time on the forum. I bought my T-Trim for 2000.00 with 15000 miles on it, but it was from someone I knew locally.

I bought my s trim off of someone from this site for 1600.00 back in august. I love it best mod. I just saw a p1sc like three weeks ago with dual intercooler for 2000.00 just do a search and see if any are still available.

Don't waste your money on a Powerdyne. It's cheaper than the others because it's cheap. Yeah... you don't have to run an oil line. Just get a self-contained ProCharger. The Powerdyne is cheaper because it doesn't come with an intercooler. Yeah... it's only 6psi, but these things get extremely hot and it's forcing hot, compressed air into an engine that has a 10.5:1 compression ratio. Get a mild boost Procharger P1-SC (comes with an intercooler), a set of 42 lbs. injectors, a Walbro intank fuel pump, and a good dyno tune and be done with it. I'd rather have you save a little more money to get the Procharger than to make a poor decision right now and purchase the Powerdyne. I have no idea why anyone would want to run a supercharger without some type of intercooler. I know people do it, I'm not saying that it is the wrong way to do things... it's just not the right way to do things.

Disclaimer: I am well aware that there are classes (I believe Renegade) that don't allow the use of an intercooler. But keep in mind that these are race cars (track only) that have built engines and are tuned properly.

Re: powerdyne or vortech s/c

ive got the powerdyne and i like it, but im only making 360 rwhp. im also running a pretty rich 11:1 my only other mods are headers and exhaust but it could be higher. i hardly ever see 6psi though because it doesnt start to hit any boost until about 3k or so and once it does, my wheels are spinning out of control. its a nice looking kit and is extremely quiet, if you are shooting for a 10-11 sec car i would prob look for something else, if low 12s are your thing, go powerdyne, or else just get an ls1. powerdyne does have an upgraded supercharger now that bolts right in as a replacement but it needs oil lines tapped as well as lower compression. im anxious to see how much power my car will make when i add 1.6 rockers, springs, and a blower cam

I'm not sure why everybody makes such a big deal about putting a hole in the oil pan. Simply follow the instructions and you won't have a problem. I've done 2 (one 4.6 mustang and one LT1) and it went smooth as can be. On an LT1, the hole's even big enough and the oil pan geometry is such that you can stick your finger through the hole to check for metal particles inside.

Just remember, people stupider than you have done it without issues.

Yeah, our club had a tech day to install a blower on a guy's car. No body wanted to tap the pan (p600), finally the owner worked up the nerve to do it and we're all standing around going "DON'T HIT THE CRANK!!!!". A few beers later it was done. Supervising rocks!

If you want a short answer the answer is ... Vortech. Just so we don't have to revisit everthing check this link out, it should have everything you'd want to know. Basically it depends on your hp goals and whether or not you want to tap the pan (like someone else said, you could go with ATI for a better self contained unit than Powerdyne IMO). FWIW I make pretty good power with my PD (approx 450 rwhp w/heads and cam) and some others do as well but that's about the limit of it. My advice is to go with a nice used Vortech S-Trim from someone here on the message board. Anyway, check out this link for ...probably everything you'd want to know to make a decision:
