Powerdyne Question.

I'm new to superchargers as the car had one when I bought it. I was taking my filter off to clean and re-charge it when I noticed some oil around the bottom of my SC. It is belt driven so I guess there is internal oil that might be leaking. Where could I find out about getting a seal for this? I went to www.powerdyne.com but I couldn't find out any info on a seal. I guess I could always call them. I was just wondering if anyone else had this problen before?

Re: Powerdyne Question.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isnt the PowerDyne self contained? If si it's losing oil from it's enternal sump. If you want that blower to last replace those seals and get some oil in it.

Re: Powerdyne Question.

Is it possible that the PCV valve vacuum line was rerouted to the suction side of the blower ducting? That's not unusual with a blower. If so, is there an oil separater in the line from the PCV valve to the blower ducting?

I think you'll have better luck with this on "Forced Induction", so I'll move it there for you......

Re: Powerdyne Question.

The PD does not have any oil in it, nor is there a seal. If there is oil present it is coming from someplace else. Look at the front of the intake where it meets the block, and at the water pump drive coupler on the back of the WP. Both are common LT1 leak areas.

The only way any oil could get to the blower would be from the hose that goes from the passenger side valve cover to the intake tube plumbing between the MAF and the blower's compressor inlet. If that's the case, it's coming from the crankcase.

Re: Powerdyne Question.

Roger, you are the most knowledgable Powerdyne owner I've ever seen post and, judging by your time, you may have the fastest Powerdyne LT1 in existance.

Thanks, Mike.

I think Jeff (of Pinks fame) has got me covered though. He also has a PD car in addition to his race car.

Re: Powerdyne Question.

Thanks for your help. I've done some further inspecting and it does look like it's coming from the crank case. Guess it's time for a new seal. I didn't think the SC had any oil but like I said I'm new to SC's since it was on the car when I bought it. I do have one other question. I was at the track Friday night and kept running a consistant 8.03 to 8.08 in the 1/8th. I'll be going to a 1/4 mile track next week and I was wondering what kind of time to expect? If I get a chance I'll also be installing a 9# pulley. My 60' was a 1.82 to 1.87 every time also if that helps. Thanks!

Re: Powerdyne Question.

Sounds like it's running pretty good. A quick way to convert 1/8 mile to 1/4 mile (although possibly not as accurate) is to just multiply your 1/8 mile time by 1.5 .

I think his runs slightly slower than yours (MPH anyway) but maybe ET's a little quicker. lol he was funny on that show "does it get good gas mileage". I got the blower back on Sunday after a good bit of cursing and bloody knuckles lol (I didn't put the orange hose on the discharge before installing the blower, then it wouldn't go over it so I had to loosen blower bolts and make some room .....then it was a nightmare getting the throttlebody elbow and up-pipe lined up and connected to my satisfaction). Thanks for hooking me up and improving that up-pipe. I think the left to right orientation is a little screwed up too ....seems like you have to leave a little gap in the middle pipe for the up-pipe and elbow to be able to reach; if the discharge was slightly relocated to the left the problem would be remedied. Thanks again for your help, greatly appreciated!

BTW, I don't recall seeing anything in my PCV line that would be an oil separator and don't think I ever had one. Is this a mod that should be done or does it just depend on whether or not excessive oil is being pulled in? (in which case there may be a crankcase problem anyway).

Question Re: Powerdyne Question.

btw, I've decided to delete my PCV vent hose and use a breather. Also I am going to put a one way check valve in the PCV valve, I know Advanced Auto Parts people would be perplexed if I asked them about one, anyone care to tell me where they got their one way check valve and/or a PN?
