The powerdyne intake IS a CAI.
No one makes a better one but if you're handy,
you can out of Home Depot ABS 4" plumbing fittings for $30-40.00.
Here's a pic of my setup.
It's quite easy to make.
Use a 3" to 4" elbow coming off the powerdyne head unit,
a 4" coupler. a foot or so of 4" ABS pipe, a 4" to 3" reducer,
and a short piece of 3" ABS for the MAF.
There's some more flow but not a huge difference.

Well the intake and the MAF sensor are both 3", so my setup is like an expansion chamber to 4" by 20" having more of an air charge next to the head available when needed.
The ground clearance is pretty good.
The Home Depot fittings are very strong and it would take a lot to break them and then it would be easy to fix or replace them.
4" steel tubing can be made to work but not as easily as this method which almost anyone can do.

Hey 2cub49 thanks for the info. I still have the photos saved that you sent me on your set up. If I cant find anyone to mandrel bend 4" I will probably do what you did. Did you really notice any difference at all? Just wondering if it is worth the trouble. You also stayed with the air filter that came with the s/c or did you get a bigger one?

Other people have claimed an extra pound or more of boost with this setup, however my A4 shifts at 5344 rpm so I don't think I'm revving enough to see the difference. I'm gonna reset the shift points higher to 5800 rpm, and since my setup is straight without the last 90 degree bend at the air filter, it can't not be better flowing.
I went with the stock powerdyne air filter but will go bigger in the spring.
I get used to extra power quickly especially the small mods and then the car feels the same.
I only had my custom CAI on for a month before I put my car away for the winter.
So I'd do it if you're gonna rev up to 6000+ rpm or you like making stuff as part of the hobby,
but don't expect much difference at part throttle in the lower rpms.
