Possibly adding an S-Trim - pan tap question

How are you guys tapping the oil return line? This is possible to do while the engine is still in the car correct?

What gains are you S-Trim owners seeing from this unit?

Any tips that I should know about - other than the fact that a rebuild will be madatory probably very soon?

Can I run this setup with my MSD 6A ignition?

How about having the combustion chambers opened up - good idea to lower the CR?

Thanks for the help

It's not the best method, but yes, you can tap the pan while in the car. Basically, just follow the Vortech directions - punch the hole in the specified area, then use a tap packed with grease. Once it's tapped and cleaned up, install the fitting (and apply sealant). Then change your oil.

Haven't done a before/after dyno or track test, so I'll let others reply on the power increase.

Yes, you can run with a MSD 6A - that's what I'm using. You'll just have to pull timing for boost through the cars programming or buy msd's add on boost retard box that works with your 6A box.

I want to add that the car is also running:

GTP-IV cam with 226/.236 .534/.561 114 LS
Jet Hot coated Hooker LT's with a decent exhaust
3000 stall tq
3.42 gearing

Ahh yes, thank you Canton!

Speedmiser - thanks for the tips - I printed out Vortechs installation instructions and read them today. Looks like a piece of cake install (uh-oh) so shouldn't have much of a problem with it.

Proven power that's for sure.

Last Saturday was my first time out with my S-Trim using
a 6" crank pulley and 6500 chip. Picked up 7 tenths in the 1/8
mile going from 7.5's @90mph to 6.8's @100mph. Put a 100 shot
to it and it picked up almost another 8mph to 107.9mph and went
a 6.51.

Re: Possibly adding an S-Trim - pan tap question

When my engine was stock with my M6, I dyno'd 370 rwhp with a 6 psi Vortech, JBA 1 5/8" headers and a flowmaster.

I performed the oil pan tap with the pan on the engine; I used about 6 punches to progressive enlarge the hole prior to tapping it. ou just need to make sure the crank shaft is not in the way (may need to rotate the crank).
