Injector/ fuel delivery requirements
Injector/ fuel delivery requirements
Well, i'm in the homestretch of my heads/ cam exhaust/ clutch upgrade and am now turning my attention toward upgrading the fuel sysyem. The motor is a stock bottom end with the following mods:
Ported intake and heads with 2.00/ 1.57 Manley valves
Comp cams custom grind 224/236 Dur. 502/ 520 lift (1.5 ratio) 115+3 LSA
Jet-hot long tubes
Y-pipe with twin random tech cats
Vortech SQ trim (6 lbs)
Fuel system (current set-up)
stock injectors with FMU
Vortech T-Rex inline pump
I am seriously considering ditching my FMU and upgrading the injectors and fuel pump. What is the consensus on selecting the right components vs. horsepower?
I also want to perform my own tuning, which program has the best track record for the OBDII system? Which is the most user friendly? I would also entertain a mail order tune as a baseline and use tuning software for all upgrades.
I have performed exhaustive research and there are just too many options out there to make this decision without first asking the question.
Cheers!
JD

Re: Injector/ fuel delivery requirements
Tuning is best performed using a wideband O2 system so you'll need more than just software. 42 lb/hr fuel injectors will feed your present needs but you need to look at future mods. A lot of us blower guys aren't satisfied with staying at 6 psi. I just purchased the Acceleronics lower impedance converter box and using 75 lb/hr delphi injectors. These will not only provide the fuel for my 10 psi blower, but give better control for part throttle driving.
Re: Injector/ fuel delivery requirements
Thanks for the reply and info! Brian Herder @ PCM for Less recommeded the SVO 42lb injectors and Racetronix Plug n' Play system. He just finished dynoing a 97 SS with a very similar set-up to mine and got 475 rwhp.
Re: Injector/ fuel delivery requirements
If you dont want to go widh a impedance converter box, just get a set of mototron 65lbs high Z direct... I have tried a set of 42lbs, Ooops to small faster then you know, bought a set of mototron 65lbs, they preformed wery well... but, to small after an upgrade, so now i have a set of 85lb (acceleronics box) run them at higer pressure =90lb 85%dc now
So you just have to decied if you need bigger than 65-70lb (aprox 600rwhp) if not just buy a set of 65lb (They idels just as fine as a set of 42lb)

Re: Injector/ fuel delivery requirements
I have a 93 so I cant program mine myself so I decided to go with an accel DFI system and 65s that way I can drive the low imp, injectors with the DFI and program it myself, its a load of money for a DFI system but in the long run its going to be worth it for me.
