P-1SC with Hotcam?
P-1SC with Hotcam?
Thats my first post
I have a 97 z28 M6 with near 100,000 miles on it, I just installed a Hotcam with 1.6 rr, shorties header and an aftermarket muffler but didn't do the tune yet! The rest of the motor is stock!
I plan to install the P-1SC @ 8 psi with the 2 core intercooler! Is adding a procharger with the hotcam is bad? I heard that its not very good because of the valve overlap or something like that and I wanted to have your suggestion on that matters! I do not plan to race it just to have some fun on street use!
is the kit is hard to install on the lt1 ?
thanks for your answer!

Adding any kind of supercharger to a high milieage stock LT1 block is recepe for a rebuild in your near future. The P1SC is the smaller kit, but running even an intercooled 8#'s of boost, I doubt your motor will withstand it.
Every month or so (if not sooner) someone comes in and asks "what can my stock motor handle boost wise". The answer is simple, but I really feel needs to be made a sticky at the top of this forum; whenever you are boosting a stock motor, you are taking a gamble on how long it will take. If you have all the supporting mods (intercooler, methanol injection, 2nd in tank 255 lph fuel pump, bigger injectors, dyno tune, ect) you might make it 15,000-20,000 miles, or you might make it as long as my old boss did at only 1500 miles. Either way you are applying boost on a high compression motor that is not forged and was not meant to be boosted from the factory. The best bet is to just stay NA, and go with a good heads/cam/intake setup. That will yeild you more reliable power for much much less. To go boosted and be reliable, you need to expect to spend around $15,000-$20,000 depending on the quality of parts you use between the motor, the blower, and all the supporting mods, not to mention the clutch or tranny, or rear. Thats a big deterrent for most as they simply can't justify or afford the vast cost to do it right, which is also why some people try to get it done for cheep. But again, going cheep, may equal you spending a lot in the motor rebuild in the near future reguardless, so I say, if you want to go boosted, save up, do it right, so you don't have to worry about breaking stuff. If the big money doesn't sound like something you can do, stay NA.

As far as the hotcam is concerned. It is not the optimal cam but a friend of mine and myself are running that cam with a p1sc and we are both running low 11s.So it will work but is not going to give you optimal power. As far as blowing it up there is a good possibility.I distroyed my first engine pretty fast with the blower.I would only put it on if you have the money for a rebuild.what ever you decide good luck.
