Overspeeding Vortech blowers safe?

Using the following inputs:

6.66" crank pulley
2.75" blower pulley
Shift at 6800 rpm

http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/...pspeedv-1.html

says that my impeller speed is 56,816. According to:

http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/...rformance.html

the max efficient speed is 52,000 and the max safe speed is 55,000 rpm.

I'm making ~13 psi boost now and would like to go higher. ASP makes a 7" crank and 2.5" blower pulley. With these pullies, my boost would go to ~15 psi, but the impeller speed would go to 65,688.

Any thoughts on overspeeding the blower by 10,000 rpm? Is there some fat built into the max speed?

I guess safe is a relative term.

Would I do it and not worry about it? -Yes

Would I be suprised if my blower exploded? -No

I ran 7in crank and 2.75 blower pullies with my S-trim, shifted around 6,600.

From what I've seen, overspeeding Vortechs is commonplace with the mustang crowd.

IMHO, Vortechs max impeller speed is conservative, and while overspeeding the blower will probably put it well out of it's efficiency range, you will still pick up alot of power under the curve, and it 'probably' won't break.

We do it regularly with ATI's stuff. An efficient intercoller is a plus. Just don't get crazy.

It probably wouldn't self destruct from occasionally spinning that fast, but it would be counterproductive. The increased heat from exceeding the blowers "efficient max" will mean that the air mass increase will be next to nothing, or even decrease though you will see a higher boost number. Also, the power it takes to spin the blower will increase substantially. The net result may be engine damage from detonation secondary to excessive IAT's, or at the least, power loss rather than gain.

Also, any blower has a max CFM it can flow no matter how fast it spins, and you probably will be coming up against that limit, depending how well your combo breathes. Sounds like you need a bigger blower.

I saw once a T-trim pump 925HP at the crank on a 414CID... dont remember who it was, but he has a website and his car is silver...

I cant imagine how much power are you pumping really.... I mean to max out a T-trim is obviously not on pump gas...

If you have no cog belts account for belt slipping which is around 10% up top... that is why maybe it doesn't explode or something.. jeje...

I want to end up with your heads and the T-trim and I should make (pump gas) around 650rwhp NOT a HP MORE or so... I sure hope so... so we'll see

anyways.. go up till you see your IATs in a safe level.. The aftercooler does a good job but it needs a better pump and a better heat exchanger.

You can always go to a YS-trim.. which you could use with the aftercooler (even if its too small) but there is a guy here that has a white camaro that has the aftercooler and runs 752rwhp with the YS-trim...

There are many YS-trim around, but really.. if its a street car like mine.. why bother? Everybody breaks with a YS! remember that... mustangs.. camaros.. Many people I have seen have broken with a YS-trim... ask LJ for instance
