Ok turbo project under way..what do I need and what can I sell
Ok....Jose..lol help me out here. Im gonna get the PTK headers and go from there. Now heres my exact(for the most part) goals and what Ill be starting with:
-no more than 650RWHP(yes, I said NO MORE THAN)
-Ill be using a 255LPH race tronix pump with boostapump
-50lbs injectors
-355 Low compression(will be built for the turbo)
-6 speed
-Stock ECU
-Looking for High 10's(and dont say its not possible..cuz that STOCK LT1 went 11.0)
ok..so thats pretty much what im *starting with. I dont want to go with an aftermarket ECU or bigger than 50lbs injectors, or the 255lph pump.
Ok..im thinkin the T-68 for the turbo. Suggestions on what else let me know(i will not change what im going with up there) Now...i will def. be going with a turbo cam now with the heads...would I be better off selling my LE2's and putting the money elsewhere and using stock castings..or should i keep what I got. Im going to use my current valvetrain(beehives,1.6 promag NSA with the bigger studs and guideplates, and .080 pushrods) I also plan on having the rest of the turbo kit built around the headers. Throw some advice in guys...

Re: Ok turbo project under way..what do I need and what can I sell
High 10's is a modest goal. You only need about 440 rwhp to get there, not 650 rwhp.
Not much point in getting just the PTK headers alone. The hard part is the y-pipe and downpipe. Honestly, the PTK headers don't look much different from a regular set of SLP shorties, but with v-band flanges. You will struggle fabbing up the rest of the hot side.
Keeping the ported heads will allow you to reach your goal at a lower boost level.
Don't get too obsessed with the whole "turbo cam" issue, as I've seen turbo motors make tons of power with a wide variety of cams. Just keep the overlap under about 5 deg.
The MPT70 may meet your power goals for alot less money than a PT68.

Re: Ok turbo project under way..what do I need and what can I sell
Oh....the piping is being made my miller race cars in wallingford CT..i used to work there and they specialise in chassis, and custom headers(mainly turbo) and just about anything that isnt engine related. I can get the headers for 900...and the rest of the piping will cost me about 500 to the turbo..and I can sell my pacesetter long tube/y-pipe setup to help offset the cost. Also I dont need any idiot posts from people telling me that my plans suck and that i dont need to turbo it..(just to let everyone know) and mike...You think what Im starting out with is good?
Re: Ok turbo project under way..what do I need and what can I sell
Seems to be a fairly well-matched combo. Is it coincidence that 50 lb/hr injectors max out at the same 800 hp that the T68 does? The fuel pump is iffy. Sometimes it'll get you there, sometimes it won't.
The only thing you don't mention is if you want 650 rwhp on pump or race gas or meth. That would help in selecting your parts.
I personally think you'll regret not getting the complete hot-parts from PTK.

Re: Ok turbo project under way..what do I need and what can I sell
yeah..i may go ahead and get the rest of the hot parts..but im tellin ya..they do insane work...its not like a normal exhaust shop. They just made a complete turbo setup for a prostreet mustang(2 t-88's) and pro 04 cobra(91mm) from scratch...so i trust them..i just dont think 1800 for some exhaust pipes is normal. and 650 will be on 110-118...I dont really wanna go over 14psi(i know that stock LT1 made 528 on 10psi) I think i could make that on less than 8psi..with the built motor. But I figure I can run 10psi on the street and 14 at the track.
Re: Ok turbo project under way..what do I need and what can I sell
650 rwhp will not be an issue with the combo stated on 110+ octane.
I bet on 650 rwhp at 15 - 17 psi.
Keep your LE heads and use a cam about 224/224-114. Make sure your cat-back is in order. At that power level, you're looking at something 3.5" or 4" and a straight-through muffler like a Magnaflow.

Re: Ok turbo project under way..what do I need and what can I sell
Though I'm a big fan of the Aerochamber, I had a 3.5" Hooker Aerochamber on my turbo combo. When I switched from it to a 3.5" Magnaflow, it picked up 6 psi boost. At the same boost level, the exhaust pressure dropped from 48 psi down to 34 psi. I don't think the Hooker will work out for ya'.

Transam, regarding the injectors, did you know 60's are available for the low impedance, stock ecu? I think they cost around $400, made by mototron. Check out ebay. Also, keep an eye on ebay for turbos, there are lots of them on there. For sizing, see www.turbonetics.com Good luck with your project, sounds good.
Re: Ok turbo project under way..what do I need and what can I sell
what stock LT1 that made 528hp are you refering too? just courious.. just wondering if it was a friend of mine from a few years back or not
Re: Ok turbo project under way..what do I need and what can I sell
I dunno 30th...Jose sent me the link. It was a 95 Z and made an 11.03 pass and blew up on the third pass. And Thank you guys so far for all the info. No ED i didnt know that but I willl look into it. The only reason I want 50's is to limit myself with the amount of power I can put into the car. ( I have no self control with my supra(t-67) and I know I wont with the trans am)
Re: Ok turbo project under way..what do I need and what can I sell
You'll need more injector and fuel pump. My car made 480 leaning out bad with 50s, stock lines, and a Racetronix kit with a 255. We added a Bosch in-line and switched to low-z 60s and we were able to add enough fuel for 561 to the wheels. I'm rebuilding my headers and downpipe right now and we're thinking I might need to go up in injector again since the car will put just over 600 to the wheels.
