new Vortech on a 350 TPI
new Vortech on a 350 TPI
Looks like a Vortech system is on its way for my 91 Formula, and I was looking for any input on it with my particular combination. I have not had any forced induction gas engines, just diesels. My car is a 350 auto with 3.23's in a 7.5 ten bolt. Engine has Sportsman 2 heads, Crane cam with 214/220 @.500 (that is from memory). Edelbrock high flow intake, big tube runners, ported plenum, big throttle body. Stock injectors, shorry headers, 3 1/2 inch flowmaster two chamber system. 2400 rpm converter. I had never planned for the blower, I was going to put in a big block, but then this deal came by that I couldn't pass up. Anyhow, any ideas on how this will work, and any tips? Thanks for the help.
Re: new Vortech on a 350 TPI
Bigger injectors and a good fuel pump. Also, since your car is a 91 with speed density, you really should look into getting a 749 Syclone/Typhoon ECM. It's really simple, you swap like 3 or 4 wires on the connector and plug in a 2 bar map. Then you can reliably control boost up to 14 PSI.
Re: new Vortech on a 350 TPI
thanks for the reply. Bigger injectors - like 24's? The kit comes with a 155 lph pump. Think that will cover it? I will have to get going and get that controller swap sorted out. Great information, thanks!

rudy,
go to thirdgen.org and look for the 'stickie' under the pcm section, this will explain the 730 to 749 ecm swap. there is also a patch ($58) that allows the 749 ecm to run an 8cyl. engine. also some guys now are running the patch with there 730 ecm and having good success.
i'm currently doing the swap with my set up, i just need to get it tuned. btw i'm pushing 730hp & 700lb. ft. of torque (flywheel) with my 383 & vortech t-trim.
good luck and don't lean it out
