New to turbos, pros & cons, cheapest?

I am new to the turbo scene. I just want to know the pros and cons of a turbo. Also, what is the cheapest way to get one?

I think the major con of a turbo is the lag or hesitation when stomping on the throttle until full boost is built up; but this is a thing of the past with the new generations of ball bearing turbos available. I have used a company called Precision Turbo and Engine and have been very pleased with them. My street car is a 92 Z28 350 TPI, which I am looking for a company that builds bolt on turbo kits for.My race car is an 87 Buick Grand National (11.55@118) which I am referencing your question from. As far as the cheapest way to get one, stay away from used ones. They are reasonably priced compared to superchargers. Good luck!

Where do you live????

Back home in the US I priced normal turbo chargers they ranged from $2,000 - $2,500 and nomatter where I looked I could never find one for less than $2,000 any where.
I never looked for a used one.
Here in Misawa, I was as "go moters" today and asked the lady there how much a normal new turbo charger assy. was, she said around 100,000 Yen (Thusday's exchange rate comes out to $857). She said at the junk yard thay would want about 48,000 Yen for one.
Back home I couldn't get the junk yard guy to part with one still on a good engine. and he all ways had people calling looking for them.
Any ways, after you get the turbo you still have to get the waste gate and the BOV valves.
Waste gates are about $600 new.
