New Heads or New Pistons...

I'm going to be lowering my compression and I'm not sure if I should go with new pistons(custom of course) or get some better flowing heads with bigger chambers. The engine will be a 383ci.

My current heads flow around 250, stock ported. But my big concern is that I'm going to be running a t-76 and I'm thinking that I could almost bump up to a bigger turbo now and if I get the bigger heads I don't know if the turbo will be able to handle the airflow at low boosts 7-15psi.

I have some pistons with a -24cc dish from my 393ci that I could reuse if I get bigger heads and that would give me an extra 10ci plus the extra flow from the heads.

Let me hear some suggestions. Thanks for the help.

I myself would go with the heads, with a good motor that makes power you are going to ahve to have a good set of heads anyway, right. without a good set of heads you just have a motor with good potential!!!!!!!!!

i wouldn't worry about the pistons...............even if you don't get the compression down where you wnat it, its not gonna cause you to have less HP.

low compression/ high boost and high compression/ low boost

it will equal itself out

...............remember compresion makes power no matter if you have boost or not!!

good luck with your decision!!

Get the heads, The more air you flow the more power you can make.

Wrong. Boost will win that battle any day, otherwise we'd all be running around on 15:1 motors and not have to spend $4k on turbos.

so your sayin an 8:1 motor with 20lbs is stronger than a 10.5:1 with 8lbs

Stronger?? It depends on the tune. The 8:1 will make a ton more power then the 10.5:1.

YEs the 8:1 at 20 lbs will make more than a 10:1 at 8lbs as it brings more air and fuel to the party. But 10:1 with 20lbs and good ennough fuel will make more power.
