New cam and heads for S/c or nos
New cam and heads for S/c or nos
ITs time for a new cam and head combo I am going to put a blower on later so a S/C friendly cam would be good any ideas and should I stay with LS1 heads? Also is a S/c friendly cam a nos friendly cam?
Re: New cam and heads for S/c or nos
I Have the same question. I'am putting a procharger d-1sc within the next month. A buddy of mine is giving me a .565 cam is this blower friendly? Can someone help me and z28xtc. I aslo have the same questions about heads. Thanks for the help.
Re: New cam and heads for S/c or nos
Not enough info with just .565 to be able to tell if this is a good blower cam.
I run a GTP4 cam FWIW
My advice is to not fall into the 'bigger is better' trap - make sure you have a plan laid out in advance for your car and don't just throw parts at it - it will not respond well.
I wanted something that made good power in the mid range, didn't want to shift at high rpm's, and my wife had to be able to drive the car to the store - so street driveability was very important.
Who wants to drive a car on the street - a lot - that makes power at 3500+? How often on the street are you at that RPM?
If you want to sound "cool" and be like everyone else - go 847 or CC306 that seems to be the 'followers' cam of choice

Re: New cam and heads for S/c or nos
Well my goal is to have a low 10 sec car. for now all i have is a 2600 converter(soon to be a 3500) upgraded flexplate, headers, intake, and weight reduction. I want a good cam that will work well with a blower. For now i will only be running 7-8lbs. I dont xpect to run 10s with that or could i? But in a little while i will rebuild it and put forged components in it. When I do that I want to change pullies to run 17-20lbs. But I dont know what cam setup would work or heads. Should I get a heads/cam combo or customize it myself? THanks for the input.
Re: New cam and heads for S/c or nos
The most important difference between a a cam optimized for NA use and one for nitrous is that the nitrous cam is going to need a longer exhaust duration and a slightly bigger LSA to compensate and keep the overlap from increasing due to the longer exhaust duration. Blower cams have both more exhaust duration and increased LSA (typically more than an N2O cam) because of the need to decrease overlap (rather than just keeping it the same).
Blower + N2O is a good bet for a custom cam as none of the off the shelf cams are really designed with this in mind. No matter what, it will be a compromise.
