Need advice: To FAST or not to FAST

Im having a dilema. Im trying to decide if the FAST setup is worth it. My current engine harness is showing its age and giving me problems. At the same time I would like to get rid of the opti. These are my two main concerns that I want to fix. If I could fix these two problems i.e. keep my opti up and running and get rid of my gremlins I would be happy with the setup. I dont think my cam requires the kind of rpm that would exceed the capabilites of the stock pcm ( 224/236 .606/.628) so thats not a consideration in deciding. I have heard that there are some features that the stock pcm has that are not available with the FAST, what are they?? From the website, it looks like they have everything covered. I would like to keep the car streetable. Anyone using FAST on a daily driver?? THe big question is can I get rid of the opti, run a conventional distibutor and still have sequential fuel injection?? Would BS3 be a better alternative?? Thanks for any info

The problem is that the stock ECM controls HVAC, security, gauges, even ABS. FAST won't do that.

I personally prefer the BS3 engine managment and it is what I run on my own car.

Running in speed density with a wideband o2 (as you would with BS3) is much safer than running the stock ecm with a maxed maf sensor as it's essentially running blind.

I also have the stock PCM wired in to control everything else.

Well, HVAC is completely gone, VATS is bypassed and the ABS is all gone as of this last weekend. From reading on their website you can add as an option a VSS and a drivshaft sensor if you wanted to go that far

Is there any difference in tuning in Speed Density vs tuning with the MAF i.e. as far as diffuculty

You still have to format and send some sort of signal to the tach and speedo (maybe others) in the dash.

I prefer Electromotive to FAST and use it on my race car. That said, the Camaro works fine with the stock PCM and an impedance converter. What do you hope to gain with the FAST (or any aftermarket ECU)?

I gotcha Mike

Getting rid of the opti and replacing the worn out engine harness are my main goals

If you go with accell dfi i think they sell a distributer sbc style that lets you go sequential.
