Talking My Orange tube replacement..((UPDATED))Pics inside!

Update 05/30/03:
I finally got pics of what the filter looks like under the car along with how the powerdyne intake looks installed on the Procharger inside (under the hood shots) along with other shots of this intake setup.

Click the same link for all updated pics:

PROCHARGER MEETS POWERDYNE INTAKE

Sometimes the cardomain site is very slow or down, so if you dont get in, try again at a later time. The link above is correct.

Thanx,
Claude

Why not just use the rest of the tubing in the Powerdyne kit and make it complete? I dont see that setup being daily driver friendly in wet weather.

{Why not just use the rest of the tubing in the Powerdyne kit and make it complete? I dont see that setup being daily driver friendly in wet weather}

The Rest of the powerdyne system will not fit because the blower P1SC Blower is slighty bigger and sits back further, its difficult to get the rest of the tubing on. Also the Air Filter does not sit that low, it has good enough ground clearance where it will not hit the ground on speed bumps or going up inclines like Steep driveways, plus the Air Dam for the Radiator will block Most excess water from hitting the filter. So far it has worked extremely well (about 1 1/2 week and 500 Miles of testing in mostly dry and some wet weather).

Thanks,
Claude

Hey it looks good! It doesn't hit the steering setup or swaybar? Did you notice any increase in boost after you installed it? You just ordered it from Powerdyne? Is the cobra head hard plastic or rubber? Thanks for the insite, thought about that last year or so but never tried it, thought of maybe fabbing something up out of metal. Never did anything just no time or to lazy, maybe both! Please keep us posted. Thanks......John.

It does not hit the Steering setup. Slightly touches it but Not enough to cause any damage to either the filter or steering.

I did not notice any increase in boost cuz this was the way I originally installed it with the new 383 set up. But I am getting ~10# of boost at 5800rpms and that is with a P1SC not a D1. I can also step up to a 3.1 inch blower pulley from the current 3.4 inch blower pulley to pick up a few (2-3) more pounds of boost.

I ordered it from powerdyne, I think it was like 50 bucks shipped (cant remember). And it is a HARD SOLID Plastic Piece not made of soft rubber.

Yesterday I opened up the car a few times on the Highway. I was actually messing around with my Friend "Maldo" 97Z28. I notice the intake temps got upto 182 degrees on the second back to back runs (from ~75MPH to 125MPH the ambient temp was about 65 degrees) BUT that may be because I ONLY have the 2 core intercooler mounted in the nose of my TA or it could be that the filter is not getting cold enough air. I plan to remove the front license plate and do some more mods (a nice cut away) to get a lot More Cool air to the 2 core to see if that helps. I will keep you guys posted on my results.

Thanks,
Claude

My Friend, "Maldo", Jim and I did cut away the licenes plate bracket to get more cool air to the intercooler. I just test drove it home and it seems to be cooler Not as cool as a 3 core would cool the IAT, it but its cooler. Before this mod, I would see about 30-32 degrees above ambient when cruising on the highway about 75 to 80 MPH. After todays mod, I am noticing about 20-24 degrees above ambient temps on the highway so that is about a 7-10 degrees drop in temps at cruising speeds. I did get to punch it once on the highway from 75 to 106MPH and the intake temps were at 125 degrees (it was about ~66 degrees outside today). I also opened it up on a back road (after sitting in traffic for awhile) from ~48 to 95MPH and it did hit 150 degrees IAT temps. So it looks like the mod has helped. I will know for sure how much it did HELP, the next time I can get a long run to ~120MPH And will post my results. I wil also have pics of the new cutaway set up on my site within a few days. One last thing that I did notice the IAT temps seem to cool down a lot faster after each run so the Intercooler is definetly getting more cool air and getting it quick.

PS...For those of you that were following my issues (tubes blowing off and clamps on holding). I also installed the Constant Torque Clamps from TubroHoses.com and will have pics of those too. Man at $7.50 it was very pricey but they 'seem' to be worth it.

Thanks,
Claude

Looks bad *** Claude. Any increase with boost since replacement of orange crap? What means are you using to get your intake temps?

Thanks Bill

I never used the orange tube so I dont know if there was an increase in boost. I am seeing 9-10# of boost at 5900rpms with the P1SC blower and a 3.4 Blower pulley but that is on a low compression (~9:1) 383 with the CC305 cam and Long Tube headers and the 2 core Intercooler. So I think its pretty good for a P1SC. I will be upgrading the blower pulley to a 3.1 pulley in late September and get it Dyno tuned then. I "should" see ~12# of boost with that 3.1 pulley and still be ~3000rpms under the Blower Max Rpm.

MY IAT sensor is located in the stock location (but with the Procharger elbow) and I am getting the IAT temps with my scanmaster.

Thanks for the kinds words,
Claude

Well done C;laude.

I still have not done the Cobra head, but I'm sure yours is a better solution.

Thanks for the kinds words broh,

I went out this morning to check the ground clearance again with the car on all 4 wheels, You would not believe how much clearance this filter has, yet still is able to get fresh air to it. I wish I took a picture of that when I borrowed my brother's digital camera.
