to much boost? head gaskets went..
Re: to much boost? head gaskets went..
Get a new set of Felpro gaskets and stick with the ARP bolts, studs on these cars are a PITA. The bolts should be fine at your level. Did the shop perform a hardness check on the heads?

For head gaskets, I consulted the builder of our SB2.2 race engines...
Fel-Pro is fine for anything on low boost.
Cometics work great for higher boost levels, but can be a PITA to seal if the heads or block are not prepared well.
SCE ICS Titan is great for higher boost levels and don't require the perfect flatness that cometics do. He recommended these for my application (up to 20psi, lots of street use).
And he mentioned one other that had a wire ring surrounding each combustion chamber. I forget the manufacturer or type, but didn't recommend it because the ring actually imprints into aluminum heads and the heads need to be resurfaced every time you pull them.

Re: to much boost? head gaskets went..
hardness check? what exactly is that? i have no clue if they did.. they just ported the heads out and decked them.
makes me wonder if my head gaskets were time booms waiting to happen? cause last year on the dyno the elbow on are water pumps that has to be turned so the hose will clear the blower it came loose and blew antifreeze out everywhere. the car did some dyno time before the problem so it was hot and maybe my heads got warped and it was a matter of time for the gaskets to give out??
does getting them decked raise compression?

I am using the ARP head studs and they are not that difficuult to replace.
loosen all of the head bolts per engine side and have an allen wrench with plenty assembly lube available just ensure the water jackets are dry before insetring the lubed studs.
Re: to much boost? head gaskets went..
Somewhere up there, you said "400 whp with bad fuel pump."
I am assuming you are basing this on the car going tragically lean or something. If so that is likely what killed the gaskets. At your boost level, with proper fueling the gaskets you are/were running should have been fine as is.
