modding plugs

I have a set of tr55's for my car. I was wondering what the deal was on modding the plugs. In terms of cutting back the ground strap (to the rear of the center electrode)to reduce spark travel.

I have read about it in the past, and want to do a little more research on it before i go and chop away. Is it worth the time? And in addition, are these even the best plugs for the motor? they were recommended, but i see others going with other plugs. Thanks.

Tr55's are stock heat range. Can't recommend a plug not knowing the specifics of your combination, but I think you would be better off with a colder plug.

As far as cutting back the electrode, I don't know if there are any gains there or not.
