methanol

hey guys i got a built 383 lt4. got the d1 procharger with the twin high flow intercoolers and i would like to max the charger out. i was wondering about running a methanol system like the smc or something with a stage in there to ramp it up with more boost. are these kits worth it for my application? how much meth is used with these kits? are u always filling them? can i get a kit that i can use the washer fluid mix or is this not a good idea? basically i am lookin for info in general. i have done a search and couldnt find much info on this stuff.

I personally like running methanol, instead of adding air (like nitrous) your adding fuel and it gives you a nice safety cushion. itll prevent detonation, not promote it. I would normally run through a gallon of meth a month(about 3 dollars), and that was being very heavy on the throttle about 3 days a week. my datalogs showed my intake air temps dropping from 191 degrees unintercooled in the FL summer time going through the traps to 75-80 degrees w/ meth, it also knocked my a/f down roughly a half point (but its adjustable to your application so it will vary)

btw, i have a kit for sale, its an alkycontrol kit and its progressive, also uses the window washer fluid resevior like your lookin for.

Methanol is not the ideal fluid, it's a mixture of methanol and water. If you do a search, you will see some differing viewpoints on this. Read them and decide who to believe.

I have 2 inj kits, one on a turbo buick, the other on my f body.

If I spray anything other than meth in the buick the car bucks and hesitates.

I tried everything in the buick from washer fluid, rubbing alk, meth water mix and the only time it does not buck and pop is on straight meth.

In the firebird the straight meth seems to cool intake charge better than mix and on that car that was my only concern.

You're probably just drowning the ignition with too much being injected. Is your system progressive?

I have had good luck with julio's (aka razor) kit from alky control.

But, as Kevin stated, you will have to watch how much you spray to keep from flooding out your ignition. You may also have to tighten up your plug gaps if you spray a lot. Going to LS1/Coil-near-plug setups has helped me in this department tho.

just changing the substance alone is not enough, you may have to retune as they are have different properties. meth will evaporate quicker than water/meth

Buick is a hot air car, tried different chips have a trans plus on it and a wideband. Its just hot airs are evil and like to drive there owners nuts. Even tried 3 different nozzles and 4 pressure settings on controller.

I am using new smc progressive kits with a built in map senser (nice kit), its not the kit it's the car. The old hot airs have a weird multi plane intake that doesnt have even distribution. So staight meth flashes better and doesnt snuff anything out.
