LT1 turbo setup
yea before i learned the diff i was welding fluxcore with 75/25 and wow splatter like no other so i killed the gas and went reverse polarity and BAM no splatter anymore. i got so,e .035 but no tips so il just have to stick with the .045 huge crap. anyways il stop taking over the thread.

Were you using flux core wire with shielding gas?
yea i was using 75/25. i didnt know it was fluxcore b/c the roll was already in the mig and didnt have a label. one if the guys on a team that i support is a welder and i asked for some tips and he showed me what i was messing up on. today i welded some exhaust pipe and it looked pretty good almost like tig im proud of myself
TIG is actually better for hot side parts. Metal stays softer and less of the area is affected by the heat. MIG works (not flux core, creates even more heat) but the welds are harder and more brittle. You wouldn't believe how an exhaust pipe can sometimes just peel open like a coke can after a few hard heat cycles.
Now unless you are cranking out kits, it isn't worth it to go out and buy a TIG setup. For me it was money well spent and I use the machine at least once a week.

If you put the header pipe that is going into the log on an angel pointing toward the turbo would it help the flow and create scavaging because of the exhaust that is blowing by in the "log", also it would be pushing the exhaust down the pipe to the turbo.
Ah... I see. Yeah, it would help with flow. Unfortunately, due to how tight it is there in that spot, if you angle the primary toward the T4 flange instead of up into the log, it would be impossible to get the first header bolt in.
