looking into getting started

I was just pondering the thoughts of supercharging my car and realized that I didn't know jack about it. All I wanna know is:

#1 - what would be a good all around kit for me to go with- given that i've currently got a 1996 SS (#212) daily driver, and I am in college so price is an issue. I'm not looking for the biggest baddest SC out there, just something to get me famaliar with boost etc. (and something to get me into the 12's, at least)

#2 - forget SC's and try something else to break the 12 second barrier... maybe a hotcam, long tubes, etc.

c'mon guys, opinions are like ___holes and I wanna know what you've got to say

if you can afford a new motor, dont put a blower on your car. period.

12s can be done with long tubes, cold air intake.. basic bolt ons. i went 12.7 @ 109 with just full exhaust and intake in good weather.

With that said, blowers are cool. but you will hole a piston eventually. Get a s-trim kit used off his board and have a good time, we'll be looking for your engine rebuild questions down the road

My car stock with a NX kit ran 12.5@110 and 14.3@99 or so on motor. With a blower, Mac headers, gears, Borla, custom PCM tuning and good tires ran a 12.7 at the same mph and ended burning up burning a piston. You are better off doing cam/heads and saving money for a nice shortblock and then buy a blower or a turbo.

You can ignore Jordon btw, he goes faster than everyone else in whatever he drives Most people are running low 13s with the setup he is describing.

Like he mentioned though unless you can afford a rebuild do not go with a supercharger. You will hurt the motor, it's just a matter of when. I ended up building a pretty stout 383 that ran 11.8s on motor and 10.5s with the same pills that went 12.5s before. Of course I had better headers, exhaust and a real converter though.
