I try to take everyones knowledge into consideration when doing a project. I cheaped out and ran srp pistons on my 600hp nitrous setup. JE techs even told me they didn't suggest an srp for a 200 shot.

I'm guessing since you have the -31 and by checking your sig that you have the 3.75 stroke pistons. I don't understand why we can't have that deep of a dish in a 355 piston.
I'm running 14psi at the moment with the spray. Golen built the small block. I told them thats what i would be running and they said those SRP's would be fine. I'm running the 5.7" rods. Haven't had any problems and always keep my tuning in check. What i'm wondering if it's detonation thats taking them out or just plain stress on them. Thanks for the input.

I'm running JE Extreme Duty -31cc pistons. After hearing about SRP's I decided not to take the chance.

Well I got a ross quote. gofaststuff.com said 1700 for a custom set. I'll pass or call Ross direct. Their website lists 799 for a custom sbc.

leadfoot, are those shelf pistons? Custom? What rod are your running if its a custom? I was told they couldn't go that big on a 4.030 5.7 piston.

Something's not right here. I bought my custom Ross dish pistons from Frank at gofaststuff.com because they're the cheapest custom pistons I could find. I can't find my receipt, but I remember paying around $700 for them. I've also paid close to that for Wiseco custom pistons in the past. Perhaps they mis-quoted.

Wow, and I thought $1000 was a lot for pistons from Diamond.

Yeah, generally you pay $85-95/each piston. So either it's a misquote or you're buying 20 of them instead of 8. I know some places like Venolia will make you buy in batches of 10 but they still aren't $1700 a set.

I'm running the JE Extreme Duty, -31cc dish, 5.7 Lunati rods. I believe the
.030 pistons are "off the shelf".

For a 3.75 stroke though.

Ill check again first of the week, but heres what I got:***
********
Omg, its super late and I am so tired but now I get it. I told him I had the eagle crank and rods, I think this is a quote for rods, crank, pistons

Jeff,

I can have ROSS make special order pistons, the only issue is that it is taking 4 weeks right now for pistons. For sure you can get more of a dish in the piston, you just need to let me know what compression you want? With he ROSS special order pistons and upgraded pins to L19, the kit would be $1799.00 balanced. This would be good for 1000hp.

Thank you!

That sounds about right for the whole kit. I know he's not a board sponsor, but he's great to deal with and his prices are very good. The owner of the local engine shop says that HE can't even buy Eagle 4340 H-beams for $335.

Looking at his kit prices, it looks like he's charging you and extra $100 for custom pistons.

As I stated, I'm using Ross custom pistons in my 5.7 rod 388 with large dishes. They are holding up quite well, and they should since they're designed tough. The dishes are round instead of D-shaped. This allows them to make the dish shallower and further away from the top ring land. This stiffens up the piston in the very location that so many of my SRP's failed.

How much flywheel HP and boost are you running Mike?

Thanks Mike, I'll call them this week and clear things up, see just how far we can go with them.

Any problems with quench? I have read the d shape dishes are better for keeping your quench tight.
