Intercooler mounting?

I am wondering about mounting an intercoole in my car. It is a firebird so there really isnt any grille to mount it behind. I was wondering if most people mount it out front and cut the bumper or is there some other way to mount an intercooler for the best results. thanks

Some people buy the dual inercoolers from ATI (the IC's that come with Prochargers). Give "Roadie" a PM as he is doing the same thing.

Thumbs up Re: Intercooler mounting?

I am using a huge Griffin FMIC with 3 inch piping. I kept the battery in the stock location, didn't have to move the radiator either.

Re: Intercooler mounting?

i went the twin high-flow route... I just can't talk myself into chopping up the nose of the car. I might feel differently about it if it had stock paint...

Re: Intercooler mounting?

Both of BADST95 and lillbush5555 have the formula front bumper. What they did can't be done to the TransAm front bumper without seriously Fing it up. I had my previous intercooler from TTI in front of the radiator. It pretty much blocked most of the radiator. I'm going with an Air to Water setup next time.

I'd be up to the challenge of coming up with something for the T/A bumper. I think something could be tastefully done. All it takes is time and patience.

I guess it's a matter of personal taste. I like the way the TA bumper looks, and don't want to mess with it. Plus I want to go A2W anyway. By the way your car is really clean looking. You did a good job with it.

Re: Intercooler mounting?

Yeah thats a nice stealthy setup, the grills in the nose of the firebird looks tight though, there very pontiac like, kinda old school. I think I'm going to wind up mounting one large one under the front of my 89 formula 350, and build some new thicker sheet metal air dams.

I'm debating on what size to get, something 30" long, 12" high, 4" thick, 3" in and outlets.

Re: Intercooler mounting?

Yeah i really dont like cutting the bumper if i dont have to but i might just grow some ***** and get air to water and carry a bag of ice with me. either that or i guess it will be totally custom. If i figure out a good setup ill let you guys know thanks for the input and if you have any suggestions let me know please. thanks
PS Those are Two HOT cars man very nice!

Re: Intercooler mounting?

Here is my thought ON the T/A Front bumper since I have a Ls1 Front clip
[IMG][/IMG]

And I did a little photshoping for what I WANT MINE TO LOOK AT. With a Black Grill, Foglights built into the Grill and factory style Flip up headlights, (The non-pop ups look Sweet with this front end but I don't want to put $1000 into it, lol.[IMG][/IMG]

Still wondering if I should mess with this front end (I think it looks so good, lol But I plan on the putting the Z15 paint job on the hood [IMG][/IMG]
