What intake temps do you see. I have the same alky kit w/ boost reference and run 10 pounds on a maxed out S trim. At the top of a gear I see 190-200 IATs vs 230 without. I does really richen the car up and have tuned for that. I bought it as an intercooler replacement but it doesn't seem to do the job.
Are you running dual nozzles?

Re: Intercooler / Methanol Questions

The proper injection fuel is ~1:1 water/methanol. Using that, I see 130-140 degrees at then end of a 1/4m. with 22lbs of boost.

I am 100% meth right now and it is still much too hot. I will try meth and water this summer and see what happens.

I have also heard that the methanol injection will only do so much, and benefit you up to a certain point (of power). Has anyone heard of this? Or is it just a rumor?

ok, so do any of you use windshield washer field 50/50 mix, I have a friend that does, it seems to work well, would any of you recommend this, what about the snow performance coolers? model #'s 20011 ?

Re: Intercooler / Methanol Questions

WW fluid isn't always the same amount of meth. And a lot of the cooling effect supposedly happens in the cylinder itself, and so you get some good benefits from cooling even though it doesn't seem as apparent from the IATs.

I used ww fluid in my 93 w/ the alky control boost ref progressive kit and approx 14psi from an s-trim. I didnt take post nozzle AI temps, but with the ww fluid it was enough to prevent the mild detonation that I was experiencing prior the alky control kit (which is exacty why I bought the kit. I just used the 99 cent blue wiper fluid - I dont think the alky content is anywhere near 50% though.

Re: Intercooler / Methanol Questions

Washer fluid is 30-50% methanol. I would only use it in a pinch as I have no idea what effect (if any) the dye has on combustion.

Re: Intercooler / Methanol Questions

I ran the ww fluid exclusively for about 6 months - then tore down the block for stronger rebuild (the motor was still running fine when I pulled it apart). Didn't see any illl effects and my eninge builder did not mention anything. Of course, we were not looking for dye related damage either, and didnt do any type of comparison testing while it was running it. For what it's worth, I didn't notice and problems using the ww fluid and the detonation problem was fixed.

I'll have to go grab another jug of the ww fluid I was using and check the content though - didnt pack any up and bring it over to the new house. I wasnt saying that ww fluid is not 50%, just saying that the cheap stuff I was using probably was not that high

Re: Intercooler / Methanol Questions

Cool guys, this is great hearing alot of different goods and bads, with factual information, this is what I wish was around more often. I just heard from some people prior to you guys, that you could use windshield washer fluid, the blue I assumed had no affect on its performance, but that some was from 30-60% content of methanol per gallon, depending on the brand I had seen. I also have read alot that a 50/50 mix was good for most situations. I first heard about this idea when it was for water injection in old school pontiacs, for the same purpose and also because with the higer compression and no cats, it was a good way to keep carbon from sticking to the combustion chambers, valves and pistons. I have also seen it used alot, but I haven't been able to talk to the users in person. Keep up the good info guys, I'm going to be picking up this 60 psi capable, up to about 1000 hp flowing intercooler for my formula, for this second project soon. Talk to you soon, I also love that so many people have cardomain sights there great for free, peace guys.

Re: Intercooler / Methanol Questions

Just found this on LS1tech and what I would expect from meth.

These are great results that I am not seeing. Maybe time for 2 nozzles.

15 psi with a D1-SC/355 cid... I really doubt that you'll make 700+ rwhp. Step up to an F1 with some more boost and you'll get there.

Here's a pic of my Formula. Just to give you an idea for your T/A. Good luck.

I am using a huge Griffin FMIC with 3 inch piping. I kept the battery in the stock location, didn't have to move the radiator either.
