Installing a Powerdyne... a couple of quick questions.

Hi all,

I'm in the middle of installing a Powerdyne 6lb on my '97 WS6 Formula. I bought it used.

Anyway, I have 2 questions (so far):

1. The instructions call for routing the valve cover breather hose that was connected to the throttle body, to somewhere on the intake tubing. Does anyone know why that is? And does it matter if I skip that step (the previous owner neglected to ship me the hose). I was actually thinking of taking that whole thing off and plugging the hole. I already have a plug in breather on the other side.

2. I also bought an Autometer boost guage. Pardon my ignorance, but I've never worked with a forced air car before. My question is... where do I "t-in" the line from the guage?

Thanks for your help!

Mark

If you leave the breather, when your boosting you'll be forcing air into the valvetrain/internal engine. You don't *have* to hook it up, but dont' plug it, just but a breather filter on.

You can T into any vacum source, its all thesame.

The hose ensures the crankcase has a place to vent without sending these blowby gases straight into the TB which would dilute the mixture with hot gases. As long as you have a breather on at least one of the valve covers you should be OK. Make sure you block off the TB location as well as the inlet tube location.

Hose is sold by the foot cheap and found at any auto store. Just take one of the ends it has to fit on to size.

If I remember right its 5/8... its real easy just run it forward, down next to the alt., run it down the k member to the intake tubing. Simple.

I just bought some 1/2" heater hose an routed it as needed. i would suggest making this connection. As for the boost guage I connected mine on the passenger side of the Intake Manifold. There is a vacuum source about midway downstream of the throttle body in the Intake. I just tee'd it and connected the orginal line to one side and the Boost to the other. i' hope this helps.

The boost guage comes with a brass fitting that can be mounted in the out flowing side of the blower. Just drill and tap the intake arm and mount the brass compression fitting. The tap size is 1/8np. As far as your other question, definetly mount the breather. With a blower, you'll build crank pressure. If you have no way to release it, not only will it come intake, it can also take out piston rings. It will cause massive blowby in extreme cases.

Thanks everybody! I really appreciate the advice.

I have a breather filter on driver's side valve cover. I think, based on summing up these posts, that I should just pull off the current breather/hose, plug the TB fitting and put another breather on the passenger side valve cover in place of the hose fitting.

Also, thanks for the boost guage help too!

Make sure you plug off the fitting on the Powerdyne plastic intake ducting just after the MAF (where the hose was to be routed).
