IAT Placement

Where are you guys putting your IATs? As close to the TB as possible? Are you somehow using the stock IAT or aftermarket?

Placed mine in the same location as stock with a aftermarket screw in sensor.

After speaking to Julio at Alkycontol (maker of alcohol injection kits) the other day, he got me thinking about mounting the AIT sensor in the actual intake manifold rather than the intake elbow as it more accurately senses the air temps that the cylinders are seeing, especially after the motor may become "heat soaked". Food for thought...

thats a great idea boosted, it gives actual correct info to the computer and considering your (OP) car is turbo, heak soak is a real concern especially if your placing the turbo were the air pump was which would put the stock location in the path of a lot of heat.

How? I think I have an extra, I might try to JB weld it or something into the metal elbow before the TB.

The stock IAT sensor is plastic, so I cant use a threaded bung or weld it.

What vehicles are you getting the sensors from? 80s camaro or gmc syclones? Do the plugs on the pig tails match?

Here's mine in my metal 90 elbow. The IAT sensor is in the upper left hand side of the pic with the black plastic tube sticking out of the side of the elbow. I am still using the stock one, and reccomend the same. You want it as close to the TB as you can get. Upstream of my IAT sensor you can see where my methanol injection nozzle is (bright orange/red line going into the elbow). You need to be aware that over time the methanol will corrode the IAT sensor, however it will take a while (even longer if you are on a 50/50 water meth mix like me), and the sensors are easy and inexpensive to pick up (can be found at Napa or Autozone for about $10).
