Ah crap. Maybe I could get an adjustable boost controller, and keep it at about 10PSI on the street? Any good alternatives besides that?

That's exactly what you need.

After my latest round of engine mods and the 373's, traction is sometimes hard to come by. Car will go sideways on occasion, so you have to be alert at all times.

It's a lot of fun driving my car around, but you have to be careful nowadays. The cops can confiscate your car if your caught street racing. Although I couldn't see them taking a ferrari from some rich guy, could you?

I was going to to step up my gears, but will now be leaving them with the 3.23's. It's funny that I'm actually kind of trying to make my car lazy.

So, what would be the latest in boost control? Anything that's pretty inexpensive that I could start off with?

Re: How Much is Too Much HP?

I've just taken a quick glance through the topic so please ignore any repeated comments that i make but, if you want to auto cross the car then 900hp will be one big amount of overkill.I know guys who have built their cars for straight line only and are running 10 second 1/4 miles with about 650 hp.

With that being said, there are some local DSM guys that want to run in auto cross and they have BIG turbo's on their cars. The problem they are running into when they get onto the course is that they are never turning the engine fast enough to make enough boost to have any sort of power increase or advantage and they are only making in the 350hp range.I do realise that a V8 has alot more air flow than a 4cyl.So i know you will be building boost very quickly, probably to quickly for an auto cross track.

The car will only see an AutoX coarse a couple of times a year. It is primarily a street/commuter car. I know I wont need the extra beans for AutoX.

A good electronic boost controller can control the gate based on engine load, gear, speed, etc... Cheap would be a simple **** mounted on the dash.

Re: How Much is Too Much HP?

Well, my car makes over 900rwhp at high boost, and my friends Cobra that makes over 1000rwhp (and in this months MM&FF), are both fine on the street if you're easy on the gas in 1st and 2nd.

If traction is a problem, just lower the boost, or adjust the ramp rate of the boost controller.

In fact, I think a few hundred HP more would still be good.

www.greddy.com

Check the PROFEC E-01. The load/gear boost is only available for certain types of cars (unless you're an electronics geek), but still, it's really neat.

More of a universal system.

What trans and rear are you running to put up with the abuse. Are you finding that turbos are a little less violent on the drivetrain?

where in alta loma do you live and what color is your SS? I'm over in north upland, I wanna see this thing when it's done, and see how much luck you have on the street with traction and cops.

It's out at Haddad Motorsports in Inglewood having the motor taken out. It'll probably be at least another month before it's done.
