Well I would only port the combustion chamber if you really know what you are doing. Have someone who is familiar with the SBC combustion chamber show you what to do. On a stock LT1 head I would say the most beneficial area to remove material in would be around the exhaust valve to unshroud it. You will want to work slow, and CC the chambers as you go along because 1 cc volume isn't alot when the aluminum starts flying. Make sure you use Dykem (aka Prussian Blue) and a scribe so you don't go to far.

I have a set laying around the shop and just by looking at them I would say at least 62 or 64 cc. SRP makes some decent pistons that will put compression in the mid to high 8's with 64 cc chambers

problem is i already got these trw pistons i was gonna use for my heads and cam project but someone offered me two swap my heads for his blower. so i went for it and im trying to hog out the ccs on the stock heads to drop the compresion. im looking to get it into the 9.7:1 to 10:1 range. do you think 72cc is withing reach? or is that too much?

thanks again

LT1 heads come pretty cheap. Get a head, and cut it up. Then people won't be inclined to give you guesses for answers.
