How much boost can a -34cc piston take??
I am planning to build a fully forged 383 stroker motor. Problem is I want to use my TEA LT1 heads. They flow real well on the exhaust side (233.4 cfm at .600 lift). The problem is they only have 54cc combustion chambers. This will require me to use a -34cc piston to get 9:1 CR.
How much boost can a -34cc SRP forged piston take?
I am hoping for 12lbs.
Should I try -31cc and 9.5:1 CR?
How weak are these deep dish pistons? (typing that question made me hungry
).
Should I just do it the right way and sell my TEA heads and buy 210cc AFR's and -12cc pistons?
BTW my engine builder is planning on using 5.7" rods.

Re: How much boost can a -34cc piston take??
I dont see any problems with running a -34cc forged piston. You should be able to run way more than 12lbs with those, given that there is a way to control detonation, intercooler, alky injec. And if the heads are as good flowing as you say then by all means use them. There are several LT-1's out there using stock castings fully ported and polished with similar pistons running at or about 1,000rwhp. You will be more than fine running those forged pistons. Everyone always concentrates on pistons, Which is good, but the real problem is controlling how much energy from heat the piston soaks up or stores. This weakens even a forged piston and is made worse if detonation is present. I am going with oilers underneath the pistons. Kinda expensive, but proven to work great.
