How to lower compression without changing pistons?
How to lower compression without changing pistons?
I'm curious how well you can change compression without changing pistons, or the bottom end. I know you can get a little lower compresson with thicker head gaskets, but anything else? This is assuming that you stay with stock heads, but modifying the heads is fair game.
I've always dreamed of a supercharger. It's what I asked about the very first time I posted on camaroz28.com (when I was still stock) and it's still a dream of mine.
The supercharger that I'm looking at is the Procharger P-1SC with the Twin High Flow Intercoolers. I'd only run it at 6 psi, since this is my daily driver, and I'm not interested in pushing the envelope for performance. I'd rather have reliability.
Thanks.
Dan

You don't want to try lowering compression by putting in thicker gaskets. It'll work for some minor changes but you get that quench open too far and next thing you know you're into detonation.

I second, errr third that

That or dished pistons are really your only two safe options
Re: How to lower compression without changing pistons?
Dang. How much can you drop compression by opening up the combustion chambers in the heads? Is it significant enough that it's worth the effort?
Thanks for the replies.

Re: How to lower compression without changing pistons?
Yeah, defintely worth it. I can go from a 8.9:1 with stock 52cc chambers to an 8.4:1 with the chambers ported to 58cc.
So in this case 6cc port =.5 compression drop.
So in this case 6cc port =.5 compression drop.
