How high to spin boosted 383?

Will a 15-20psi forged 383 handle 7000+rpm? Will it continue to make good power up there if the valvetrain will handle it? I plan on upgrading to a LSX pcm so I'll have the ability to spin it to 8000 rpm if needed and just wanted to see if it would be a good idea. I figure my intake will make power up to about 9,000 and the heads flow in the 330's at .700 lift, don't know past that but if the motor will handle it, why not.

Pretty much I just want to know what rpm to set the rev limiter at and where to have the blower max out at?

Anyone done this? Lets hear some good reasons as to why this would be a good/bad idea.

Well, you should pulley the blower to max out at peak HP which will be functions of heads and cam.

7K is 7K. 7000 on a 450 hp motor will impose most of the loads on the internals as 7000 on a 700 hp motor.

what heads do you have that flow that much ? I have the same forged 383 that iam just getting broke in , I think I will go to about 7000 rpm. I will have it on the dyno in a few weeks and see where the power starts to drop off.

Exactly, a reason would be that you have already made max power and torque at let's say 6000, there wuld be no need to spin it any higher. Get it on a dyno and see where max power and torque is. If it is at 8500 and your engine is build for it, sure spin it up that high.

What bottom end parts are you planning on using?

Is this an all out race engine?

7k+ is a lot of rpms with 15psi. 20psi is a ton, are you running a solid roller cam??

put it on a dyno and see where the power is, cam will have a big part in it as well
