Me personally if I could only afford to do one or the other I'd build the engine first. With my "blower motor" the car still ran 11.8s naturally aspirated, which was fun until I finally ordered the turbo junk.

Read this thread if you haven't already, and judge for yourself if it's stupid or not.

Yeah I had been spraying that motor for quite a while now. I don't know if I had weakend the piston's alot doing that. I had sprayed a lot of 100-150 shot 1/4 mile passes and a couple of 175 passes all with no problems. Then decided to go with a blower thinking that it would last a little while longer but as you probally read I got all of 50 miles and about 4 dyno pulls out of it. This motor only has 52K on the clock also.

I put the S-trim on my car right around 87K, I've put about 1500 trouble free miles on it. All a matter of opinion. Maybe I was/am just one of the lucky ones.

Make sure you want to spend the $ that it will take to get the blower in and up, and then perhaps an engine rebuild ... we're talking $3K for a blower and $6k for an engine rebuild ... should it come to that ... get your mind around that and then yer set.

Just make sure you don't get any detonation ... none ... none what so ever ... and then you may have a good run.

How to avoid detonation?? ...

I use Xylene as a fuel additive, increases octane rating.
Get the car on a wide band dyno and make sure you are running an A/F ratio that is "conservative" ... 11.5 - 12 to 1 is a good number.

Use a Boost Timing Management device to pull timing when under boost, 1 - 2 degrees per lb of boost.

Use a scan master religously ... and if it says you are getting spark retard on your WOT runs ... then do something about it.

Most of all, think about what is going on, understand ... and learn from the "Big Dogs" that inhabit this board.

You are about to cross over ... to the dark side ... you will not go back ...

Hope this helps

I didn't have much time to respond earlier (at the beach on a labtop) but I'll go into a little bit more detail about my setup in hopes that it may help you a little or anyone for that matter. Like I said I put the blower on the car at around 87K. I went with a used S-Trim, used Holley NOS fuel pump, used Crane HI-6TRC ignition. Only thing I bought new was the guages and guage pod. I have a 6# pulley on there and only see about 4.5# of boost. The Vortech FMU obviously keeps it running a little rich which I like for now. I have no tune as I am a broke biatch .
I myself pull about 7-8 degrees of timing. Some people say it's pointless to buy a blower and only throw that much boost at it. I agree, but in a couple months after the rebuild that will change hopefully....atleast that's my plans.

I e-mailed you on the engine combo already but it was a 9.8:1 383, LPE heads and a big cam. On a 150 shot it was good for 10.5s@129 mph btw

With the turbo it did basically what any supercharged LT1 will do, it burned up! Now it's an 8.3:1 385 with better heads, cometic head gaskets and head studs.

If you can only afford one or the other, Go with the engine. Would really bite if you have a blown engine with a hole in a piston cause the short was not capable of holding. Granted i have a freind who has 100k on his stock setup and small blower but his case was rare from everything I have seen.

I would do the motor and wait till you can afford a blower down the road some.

If your car needs to be reliable, go for the engine rebuild and wait on the blower. If you just want fun and can spare the car for a while to rebuild the bank account slap the blower and don't look back! Until you crack a ringland!
