Exclamation What pulley for a 383 w/ ATI P-1SC

I'd appreciate some suggestions from you folks

Situation at a glance: Intercooled ATI w/ 8 lb pulley. 383 being built w/ all forged rotating assembly with an expected CR of 8.8:1. Ported polished stage 1X heads with a CC XE 224/236 114 LSA.

Should I stay with the 8 pounder or move up? If so what pulley and why? I've read unhappy members that have gone passed 10#'s, hence my question. 10, 12,.....14??

Also, what would be your guess on RWHP#'s with your suggestion or with the 8# pulley?

BTW, this is on a '95 Impala SS (LT1) OBD1, built 4L60E, 2800 Vigi and 3.73's.

Thanks in advance!

Edward

Just as a reference, I am running the P1SC with my 383 combo and stock heads. You can click on the sig for more details on my set up but I am getting 10# of boost with a 3.4 inch blower pulley and a 7.65 inch crank pulley (12 Ribbed Set up) at 5900 rpms.
I would definely pulley up if I were you, I think you will see a little less boost than I do with the same pulley set up with that cam and heads but you will make more power.

What are your HP Goals?

And type of fuel set up are you going to run?

Hope that helps,
Claude

I would suggest you pulley it up enough so that you see the desired amount of boost a few hundred before redline. As far as how much boost....with all forged internals and a fairly low compression ratio I would go with 12 or 13#. I would even think that's pretty dang safe. You could run more than that in my opinion with the setup you have.

Hey Claude,

Thank you for the input. I gotta confess, I frequent your site often.
My hp goals are pretty simple. I'm not trying to squeeze every little bit of hp's nor cut weight from the car. More like,....the ability to hold my own at the track and from light to light if need be. My goal was stop, show and go. More street than track.
The only mod to the fuel system is the Walbro in tank fuel pump, 30# injectors and Aeromotive adj fuel pressure reg.

Hey Stephen,

B Herter has me shifting just past 6 grand on my previous set up. We'll see what he has up his sleeve with the new motor.
Thanks for your help, Stephen.

So far it's 10-13 lb pulley.

If it matters: I forgot to mention that the P-1SC has a D-1 impellor. Here's a couple pics before the rebuild.

The only thing I see that is not going to work are the 30# injectors. I had 42# running at 93 % with a stock bottomend and small cam making 450 rwhp.

WOW

Nice Car Broh...Sounds like you will do more than Hold Your own at the Track and Street. But as the previous post said, I think at the very minimum, you will need bigger injectors, I would forget about 42# ers and ethier go straight to 50# ers. If you goal is over 600HP, then I would start looking into a new pump as well or a Dual Intank Pump from Walboro and mabee some Low Impedance Injectors with the FAST or a DFI tuning system or mabee the low Impedance converter box.

Thx,
Claude
